Hi!
Does the Instant death rule allow save rolls? Let's say the weapons strength is double the targets toughness. Can he roll for a save then?

Without wanting to be rude, have you read the Instant Death special rule? It says, "If a model suffers an unsaved Wound..." which means Instant Death is only a factor after saves are rolled - it has no effect by itself on whether a save may be taken.

Very often double checking what a rule says can save having to ask here

What Mr. Shine said. Plus:

A source of confusion might be that many weapon profiles, for which Instant Death is a consideration, limit available saves with AP or Ignore Cover.

There is a save that you aren't allowed to take in the case of Instant Death, you aren't allowed to take the FNP save.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

FNP isn't technically a saving roll though (despite being referred to as a save in the rules several times).

Huh...hey Kingsley, does that mean FNP can get around 'no saving throws of any kind' effects?

As long as it isn't a D weapon or sx2/t then yes.

Yup. It even says as such in FnPs rules "this is not a saving throw and so can be used against attacks that state 'no saves of any kind allowed'".

Though as JamesY said other rules can stop FnP being able to be taken, like Destroyer and Instant Death.

I have been playing with needlessly fragile Psykers.

Yes, ID is considered only after you've taken any save the attack would allow.

Though to be fair it seems to be a somewhat common misconception that ID allows no saves (or even needs roll to wound) - it wouldn't be called "Instant Death" if it wasn't instant, would it?

Wait can are RAR say just that for FnP?

If so, thats going to change a lot of stuff for my play group, we have always treated it as, if you ID, you dont get a FnP.

So instant death would only be a one shot on multi wound creatures.

If thats the case as well, lets say i smack something that has 3 wounds, but has FnP with and ID weapon, does he then need to make 3 FnP saves, and if he even misses one, it kills the model outright?

To many unpainted models to count.

You don't get fnp rolls against attacks with the instant death rule, or the destroyer rule. So he would make 0 fnp rolls, just any armour or invuln saves the model may have.
