I know there have been some general threads on what to buy to get started in X-wing, but I think I've got a more specific question.

Aside from TIE fighters and X-Wings, what ships am I going to want multiples of? (I'll probably be buying at least one each ship no matter what)

I've already got two of the original starter sets I bought not long after the game was released (four TIEs and two X-Wings). There's quite an active X-Wing scene at my FLGS these days, though, so I'd like to expand my fleets and get into to playing more regularly. I'm mainly looking at Rebels and Imperials for now, and I'm looking to build a flexible collection so that I can play something different each game for either faction, rather than looking for one killer tournament list.

Thanks!

All of them, well except maybe the Hawk and Lambda - one of those apiece. These two are support ships, and I haven't seen a good use of 2+ copies in them on a list as of yet.

Overall, what ships you play or don't play will come from preference, of course, but so far I haven't found a ship that isn't worth building a "fun" list with at least two of the same ship in it.

I'm mostly an Imperial player, and this is the order I would rank ships in acquiring (though, again, based on my preferences):

1) Tie Interceptor
2) Tie Advanced
3) Decimator (save the duplicate for last, start with 1 copy until you get familiar with running it)
4) Tie Bomber
5) Tie Defender (actually my favorite, if the most expensive imperial ship in the game)
6) Firespray
7) Tie Punisher (Know how to use Bombers effiectively first before taking this one on)
8) Tie Inquisitor (swappable in place of Tie Advanced if you like it more than the Advanced)

To me, the Tie/FO is interchangable with the regular Tie - which version you use is really preferance to your opinion on shields.

It never ends well

If you want an insanely simple list that can acutally accomplish a lot, and don,t care about having the actual cards, I'd say 3 K-Wings, with TLT (they come with the K-Wings) and add a tactician (if you want to try the stress control element, only available from the TIE Phantom unfortunately) or Advanced SLAM (again, same K-Wing pack).

You'll want a few A-Wings if you want to try the chihuahua list (5x Green a-wings with Adaptability, Crack Shot and Autothrusters)

Another cheap and easy list is 4 B-Wings and a Z-95. No upgrades, hits like a brick wall.

You'll want the T-70, as it is a general upgrade on the X-Wing, and the expansion pack gives you the Integrated Astromech upgrade which can give your original X-Wing a bit of ooomph.
