(( Welp, still chipping away and probably just about done this wee-little element. So enjoy what's here and don't burn me at the stake! ))

Mongrel's began as feral 'devolved' humans found during the colonization of Edith Sector. Several worlds once colonized during an era lost were reduced into feral worlds along with the human populace. One world in particular nicknamed 'The Putrid Plains' had a peculiar bunch of humans known as 'Mongrel's'. Possible relatives to 'Homo sapiens variatus', otherwise known as Beastmen, they weren't entirely mutated beyond comprehension. Small horns protruded from their head, facial hair emphasizing their muttonchops, and bodies coated in thick hair. Otherwise very hairy men and women with small horns, they were deemed 'Abhumans' regardless.

When initially discovered, Mongrel communities were relatively civilized all things considered. Sprawling cities from an era past became vast overgrown alien jungles that were quite tame. Fields spanning hundreds of kilometers hid the most notable predators, skulking underground and lunging from their tunnels to capture unguarded prey. Mongrels, however, remained in the alien jungles where the communities mastered fire, the wheel, and resembled Renaissance europe, except for knights and overtly devious royalty. Communities hunted, fought, and built in packs as a means to fend off larger predators inhabiting the jungles.
Imperials entered the world to be greeted with immense hoards of Mongrel's inhabiting large portions of ruined cities. These hoards successfully tamed their once hostile jungles and lived quite peacefully aside one another. It was only when the Ecclesiarchy, in their flying cathedrals did this peace come to an abrupt end. Order Sabine came down accompanied by the newly founded Order MIlitant, Radiant Bliss to ensure all would learn of the Imperial Creed and the God-Emperor of Mankind.

Like Christopher Columbus first visiting the natives, even the Viking's, this conversion didn't exactly go as smoothly as expected. Quickly deemed Abhumans after further examination, many were taught they were filth, mistakes humanity intended to hide. The gull, the sheer audacity. Several small bands attempted to quell such 'educational' gatherings by outright murdering the Orders Militant sisters in brazing hit and run tactics. Unfortunately, this only made matters increasingly worth.
An act of war against the Church meant all must suffer, and so it was. Sisters immolated entire jungles, bombers turned wholesome villages into blazing inferno's. Fire washed over the land yet this wouldn't deter them. Their greatest strength showed in the most peculiar way. Neither male or female showed any care for their own lives against power armored Sororitas, auto-gun firing Guardsmen. Through the flames came stolen munitions quickly adapted to their ranks, arrows hidden behind veils of smoke. What no one counted on was the heavy reliance on their keen senses. Their heightened sense of smell and hearing weren't overwhelmed by plums of smoke or rattling gun fire, nay, this didn't hinder them. Every attack came immediately after troops landed in previously bombed zones. At first no one could fathom it, how their morale wasn't shaken after such loses, how accurately they fought in blazing war zones.
One year passed since the initial war broke out and fighting still continued with Mongrel's remaining well into the millions. Their population was easily replenished due to their survival instincts. Triplets were most often born and matured after twelve years. Their life expediencies were normally fifty years, seldom sixty years. It became rather obvious these Abhumans could better serve the Imperium than crumble beneath it. Decisions were made after this realization that attacks would cease an negotiations would commence between them. Of course several high ranking officials didn't agree but facts were facts. Regiments were difficult to replenish, armored support a valuable commodity that couldn't be squandered, and labour was needed to ensure the Edith Sector was successfully recolonized.

Arbitrous Volmazda, the man who discovered this lost sector took it upon himself to head negotiations that would welcome these Abhuman into Imperial rule. Once a Rogue trader brought back into the Imperial fold, he used himself and other examples in his various negotiations to convince Mongrel's to rethink their cause. Of course it remained quite relevant they weren't humans but a sub-species, they were promised full citizenship if they cooperated. The alternative was exterminatus (Bluff) showed in particular detailed via holo-vid. Such a fate wasn't emphasized yet the simple suggestion and sight made it all too clear what would become of them. Arbitrous continued negotiations by emphasizing the grander aspects of the labors ahead, albeit embellished, weren't without their truths.
Weeks, perhaps a month before Arbitrous officially welcomed, as the humans dubbed them, into the Imperial fold. As begrudging as they held their human overlords, it wasn't entirely without purpose. Technology was introduced into their primitive communities. Advanced medicine thoroughly eradicated crippling diseases yet... None of that could ultimately overshadow the fate that beheld them. Most Mongrel's would essentially become mass slave hoards erecting the cities that came with the Edith Expansion. Humans became even more valued since a few Mongrel's could easily take their place. it ultimately fell upon the soldiers fighting within the Imperium to truly show their worth and value. These Mongrel's, who knew the task before them, would become infamous for their chaotic methods, juvenile behavior, even undisciplined nature. Above all that, every Mongrel knew in the back of their heads that it was up to them to earn their people's citizenship into the Imperium. Ordinary Guardsmen, who broke into frantic fleeing at the sight of Daemons or Warp Monsters were shamed by Mongrel's. Through the veil of clownish behavior, they were always confident and never thought about their own security. It's noted suicide bombers are often seen in desperate situations, bikes driven into lightly armored opponents, and other chaotic methods.

Mongrels fight for the day everyone of them will be accepted into the Imperium as equals. The bloodshed against the Traitor, Xeno, and Mutant is spilled with purpose. Mongrel's fight for that glorious day the High Lords of Terra themselves acknowledge their many feats of sacrifice and heroism against seemingly impossible odds and declares them citizens.

Biology: These Abhuman variants can be identified by their small spiked horns protruding from either temple, or the rare occasion, a single large horn. Other physical feature are their facial hair, which is abundant even on their woman. Similar to satyrs in legends, their entire bodies are quite hairy, except maybe the woman who still remain quite hairy along the forearms. Lastly, their rigged sharpened teeth whenever they smile, which is rather often all things considered, is a dead give way. All this paired with incredible hearing, sense of smell, and other heightened senses has garnished them the nickname 'Mongrel's'. They're essentially war hounds meant to be unleashed

Abhuman Indoctrination: 970.M38
Company Emblem: A winking female abhuman chomping a cigar
Abhuman to Human Ration (In Sector): Ten to one
Current Forces in Edith Expansion: Three Million
Core Units:Light Infantry/Abhumans

Equipment Notes: Mongrels aren't usually armored, only specific units or officers. Flak armor and other variants are usually reserved for human soldiers unless particular Mongrel has proven his/her worth on the field. Aside from that, Mongrel's aren't normally equipped with Lasrifles or other energy weapons. Their primary arms fall under auto-weapons, shotguns, basic frag grenades, and the occasional grenade launcher. Most of these arms are older models or ones easily massed produce for the sole purpose to equip these Abhumans while more professional arms are given to humans.

Infantry History
Mongrel's common appalling demeanor on and off the battle field has helped Administorum to identify different unit ranks among the Mongrels. Natural leaders learn and adhere to military doctrine exceptionally well, though those are rare breeds though normally noted as female. This drastically changes when in battle fields, where official officers can truly dictate which is which. Trench Mutts coined by other Mongrels, are fearless zealots who cackle excessively in close quarters battles... Even if the opponent is a daemon. I'll list the some defining units the Mongrels have to offer the Imperium of Man

Regimental Bulwark: Approximately eighty percent of Edith Sectors Imperial Regiments consist primarily as Mongrel's. While not all can submit themselves into service as they're given other tasks, many children born inside enslaved families are given to families serving the Guardsmen. Current slave families cannot abandon their duties as they could when the Millitarum began its first conscription. Tragic as it is, military service is considered the closest thing to freedom they'll ever know. As such, these children are taken without word or question and groomed as one of their own. While this could impede slave based families, Mongrel Whiteshields are exceptional recruits. No human would outright confess this but history has stated on numerous occasions that these abhuman recruits are ideal light infantry. Given their superior sense of smell and hearing, they're more than suited for this role. However, nothing is ever picture perfect.

Mongrels are natural hunters, mainly carnivorous hunters who once hunted in packs. There's a certain freedom they desire that often conflicts during training leading to extensive disciplinary actions. Humans often regard them as rambunctious, unsavory, even outright savages. They're naturally very a communal race who perceive experience and age as status while titles simply dumbfound them. For instance, a Sergent demanding a private to polish his boots would receive a clueless, almost offended expression. Guardsmen families try teaching their children otherwise but this just comes naturally.
Older, more experienced Mongrels take it upon themselves to instruct new recruits on Imperial Doctrine while meticulously educating them on rank and uniform. Often enough, these veterans will emphasize its importance by instructing them how important their role is. Though it isn't set in stone, many recruits, even veterans believe serving the Imperium will one day free the millions, maybe billions of slaves working and dying lives they'd consider nightmares. Where there culture has been thoroughly cleansed, this belief usually subdues natural tendencies while maintaining a strong connection within their race.

Trench Mutts: After decades of being taught they're heathen abominations and their only salvation is through the death of all things Xeno or Traitor; these mongrels take their zealotry to new heights. No enemy can break their morale, impossible odds become probable, and they cackle excessively in melee combat. This was originally mistaken for insanity but it was something else entirely. Trench Mutts are the runts of their society, the smallest Mongrels. They believe if enough enemies die by their axes or pistols, they'll be absolve of their 'mutant' heritage. Obviously delusional if they believe it but it continues with officers reinforcing their pipe-dream through admiration after battle. Anyone can usually see them storming enemy lines in the hundreds into brutal melee combat where they'll literately chew an enemies nose off.

Equipment: Two low caliber pistols, one krak grenade, and two laser sharpened hatchets

Human Officer Note: Not much discipline is needed to tame Trench Mutts, regardless of their frenzied nature on the battle field. However, officers ensures their strict training is done consistently. Trench Mutts, though physically weaker than the average Guardsmen, are fearsome melee contestants.

Shredder Hounds: Powerful Mongrel's described as bulldozers are known for excessively training their physique. These variants appeared during selective breeding projects that would eventually breed larger, stronger, more disciplined Mongrels. Since they make-up the bulk of imperial forces, certain Biologis took it upon themselves to improve the general Abhuman strand through natural means.
Shredders carry Bismal Pattern Heavy Stubbers. These specialized Stubbers are mass produced for their reliability and cheap cost. Wood and iron make this Stubber quite heavy. They'll wear backpacks with a chain of ammo constantly feeding into their stubber. Often enough they'll be seen firing shorts bursts from the hip. Custom handles are fitted over the barrel to combat recoil and stabilize suppressive fire against enemy lines.

Equipment: Bismal Pattern Heavy Stubber, ammo pack, serrated machete, and reinforced flak armor.

Human Officer Note: More than once has it been noted that Shredder Hounds are the most dedicated to the cause. Years of physical and selective breed training has transformed them into effective shock troopers that provide a much needed punch during urban or jungle conflicts.

Jester Packs: Snipers travel alone into secluded area's but not these ones. Jester Packs, as they where war paint depicting a red smile, travel in groups of six. These six will where tailored made camouflage cloaks for their designated location. Packs usually lead any advance through hit and run attacks on enemies. They're not the best marksmen by any means so compensate with increased fire power and capitalizing on ensuing confusion. Larger battle fields are their bread and butter. Enemies will usually end up maimed or, if hunkering down too long, their heads blown off.
The reason Jesters exist is their keener senses. Heightened smell, hearing and other senses ensures few if any enemy can ambush them. Before an enemy gets too close or discovers their location, their gone without a trace.

Equipment: Absolution Pattern Sniper Rifle and Camouflage Cloak.

Human Officer Note: You'll never see two individual packs conversing with one another nor do they interact at all. Jester Packs are six Mongrels who become brothers in arms and allow no one in. They're especially rambuctious and need reigning in by their superiors every now an again. Never get into card games, or any game in general with these scam artists cause they'll undoubtedly cheat anyone outside the Packs circle. Besides that, training is done regularly though it's noted Packs aren't exactly ambitious to become renowned snipers.

Other Mongrel's: Non-specialized Mongrel's are undisciplined soldiers incapable of complex formations. Most paint them as rowdy men and women who perceive battle fields as their own playgrounds. Even amid heavy shelling fear won't ever grasp them. Bunkers will quake around them and they'll casually smoke their cigars, throw down cards, and play 'Fragly' (See who can cook their grenades the longest before throwing. ) Not exactly the prime fighting force the Imperium normally garrisons but their merits have been earned in bloodier conflicts.
Disciplinary issues aside, Mongrel's are notorious for holding lines and maintaining prolonged fire fights. They'll essentially maneuver along safe passages in their own territory, never stationed in one position too long. Where bullets fired from on direction doesn't always guarantee it'll happen again. Presumably a trait from their ancestors, Mongrel's are natural hunters whole skulk through their own territory. Enemy movement found within their lines is easily torn apart- either by range or their very claws. Their keen sense even allows them to roughly gauge where an enemy is, other times pin point their exact location. Essentially, infantry heavy conflicts are dire messes whenever Mongrel's are involved.

Vehicle History
As the bulk of Imperial Vehicles are typically driven by humans most Mongrel's don't have the luxury of conventional vehicles. Imperial forces find themselves plagued by either Dark Eldar, Pirates, or Space Faring degenerates attempting to raid transports. All this has peaked Mongrel ingenuity through various means. Ordinary transports used by citizens are taken from the streets and outfitted by these Mongrel's for their own use in conflicts.
Originally frowned upon, even some Mongrel's being executed, their readiness to outfit otherwise ordinary vehicles has saved them and many humans alike. Most notably, near the edge of the Sigmundus Cluster, tens of thousnds thousand of cultists nearly occupied a budding hive city. The collective Guardsmen and remnant PDF defenders fought them in grinding urban warfare eventually utilizing Mongrel outfitted vehicles when others were in disrepair. This would eventually path the way to their own unique vehicles but under close observation.

By no means are these designs used by other regiments, specifically by Mongrel's. Here are some common designs used and special vehicles given to them.

Dirty Riders: Ordinary bikes will be outfitted with two passenger cars and rotating heavy stubbers. Wreckage will be welded onto the bikes front with a small slit showing the driver which direction he's driving in. Some Mechanicus humored the Mongrel and upgraded bike engines simply out of hilarity sake. It isn't openly admitted but who wouldn't chuckle at crazed Abhumans hooting and hollaring over machine gun fire behind enemy lines? No one, that's who.

Vehicle Class: Shock Vehicle

Smiling Fragly: An escort coach used for nobility is outfitted with plasteel plates on either side and treads instead of wheels. Mongrels will give up their collective grenade shells saved from previous engagements for these vehicles. While one drives stead fast into the front lines, three more with grenade launchers will fire collective grenades from separate openings. An Imperial symbol will be crudely painted on each side with a tooth smiles spray painted underneath. Mongrel's will tend to these machines after every conflict.

Vehicle Class: Artillery?

Service and Honor: Two Arvus Lighter Cargo ships were modified by generous mechanicus Tech-Priest when it was revealed Mongrel's were serving the Imperium for four-hundred standard years. Twin heavy combi melta's are fitted on the wings and two lascannons beneath its cockpit. The cargo holds were reconstructed into bombing stations so each ship could do bombing runs. A myriad of other upgrades were added to diagnostics, engines, and other systems making each Arvus suited for battle. Current pilots, Minerva Oil-Spit and Freddy Breacher are known to tackle other aerial opposition in fierce dog fights neither has yet to lose.

Only two pilots are ever properly trained for these machines. It is usually a show of recognition for their extensive service but occasionally sees action.

Vehicle Class: Air Support

Hey everyone, I'm not sure who's reading this but I was wondering if anyone could let me know if this is a believable regiment in the 40K universe? I've recently start on my first real story project but I don't want to post it unless they're 'lore accurate'.

Thanks in advance.

Outer Space, Apparently

For the most part it's totally plausible; abhumans are drafted to help Imperial efforts all the time regardless of their nature. However, only the ones that are respected such as the Ogyrns can expect to be properly indoctrinated and shown any form of care by humans. It would be likely that these regiments would have their units divvied up and attached to weaker human regiments to bulk them back up, or to act as cannon fodder to any particularly careless Imperial Commander.

Since they're very akin to Beastmen, they'd be likely to be kitted with Auto weapons and basic heavy weapons such as Grenade Launchers, as these are readily available and best suited for their needs.

I would personally consider the Honour Bound as being an unrealistic unit, as any abhuman or even human who is diagnosed with a mental disorder is likely to be discharged immediately from the military, either honourably or with a bolt shell through the skull; anyone afflicted by Chaos will be guaranteed the latter treatment, human or abhuman.

Since abhumans typically fight as part of another human regiment, they are likely to use the motor pool that regiment has to fulfil their transport requirements, typically in Chimeras since their cabin is better suited for potential abhuman transport. So in that sense, I see it unlikely for their own tailored motor pool to exist outside of potentially the cargo ships.

Hope this helped you out

I've taken all your advice into consideration and began various edits on them, specifically Vehicle History, removed Honor Bound, and touched up Equipment to be more specific. I'm going to work on the main description soon to take away the regimental aspect and explain further on their role in the Imperial forces and their ever going fight for citizenship in the Imperium.

I'm not going to defend anything or over explain, instead, I'll make edits to explain reason and otherwise. Frankly, I'm somewhat new to Warhammer and trust your judgement over my own.

If you could wait until tomorrow to go through them once more after I've made the appropriate edits.

Thanks for poking out all the holes and helping me make them more accurate.

If you ever want to run your own lore by what's currently canon to see if it's not heresy, I recommend checking out Lexicanum.com, as it has pretty much everything currently in canon written down, all cited - no fan fluff to be seen!

Hope this helps you in the future

I've been going between that and Warhammer 40K Wiki. Honestly, I like the Warhammer 40K Wiki because it describes in detail about a lot of Warhammer aspects while Lexicanum generalizes a lot. Still, I'm not sure what is retconned or fan fluff... It's like a gamble.

It does help, actually, thanks.

Yes 40k wiki does go into more detail, but as you have said, what detail is true and which is false? You could only know if you've read the source material in the first place, and ain't nobody got time for that. I prefer Lexicanum for all my lore delves since everything is sited and trustworthy.

Plus they have 40K OOP miniature porn for people like me - send me Chaos Battleships

Tomorrow I'll get back to you if you want to re-evaluate my filthy slave legion, cause that's basically what they are.

You know, it's still neat to read the information on Warhammer 40K Wiki. A lot of it is truth, cause I did check a few sources but there are huge contradictions that just stand out. Lexicanum does have some pretty great miniature Battlefleet Gothic models. I mean the detail is mind blowing. I swear they take microscopes while painting any model. Hehe
