Alright, I've got a really stupid idea, but I think I want to try it out just once or twice just to see how it rolls. I have 5 TIE bombers laying around, & I want to get some use out of them. So here we go. Tactician overload.

I've got multiple variants for critique, so pick your favorite.

Simple 5:
5x gamma squadron Pilots with shuttle title, tactician

Ace 5:
4x scimitar squadron pilots with title and tactician
Tomax bren with title, tactician, crack shot

Howl 5
4x gamma squadron Pilots with shuttle title, tactician, TIE mk.ii
Howlrunner with Predator, Stealth Device

Super 4:
4x gamma squadron veterans with TIE mk.ii, title, systems officer, tactician, and VI (or crack shot/determinaion)

Can you make the points work for Jones (shuttle /tact) + 1-2 other shuttle/tact bombers and 1-2 more standard bombers with some ordinance?

I think (based on no _actual_ evidence ) that at some point you hit diminished returns after a certain number of tacticians... and I'm betting that point is 3.

Three shuttle /tact bombers, I would think, is enough to get kinda guarantee 1-2 extra stress on a target (given the right kill box) and that's all you need to cripple an ace for long enough to get some missiles on him.

Without the ordinance, I wouldn't feel confident of catching & pushing damage through the enemy on the turn it lacks actions.

Part of me wants to drop a bomber (w/O tactician ) and beef up the other "shooter" to a gamma vet or something, but that's probably not a great plan

It might be. Having extra Munitions on a better firing ship is wonderful. Additionally, Jonus will not be as effective for flying in formation as he will be in the front, because of tactician.

3 might be the cut off point, and the whole basis behind the 4-5 shuttle design is that if I have arc on you, you aren't recovering.

If you are going to go without Munitions, I'd go for tomax + rebel captive... especially with crack shot, I would say you need something to deter incoming shots...

I guess the only thing I would worry about is that you super stress one enemy, what do you do about the others?

I'm not saying your idea/plan is bad, just that I don't see the middle/end game plan...

It's a nice idea. The main problems are:

1) Alpha Strike squads - if someone can kill a bombers from range 3 in the first engagement, you might find yourself really lacking performance later on

2) Squads who don't care about stress. A pack of TIE/x7 defenders still get agility 3, still get a free evade token, and still get to K-turn...... and even without dice modification, can still probably take a more-or-less equal number of TIE bombers in a dogfight.
