Hi guys. I just picked up 2 boxes of Dark Angels Veterans and am wondering the best ways to build them to give me the best options. I already have a Standard Bearer and a Apoth so I am free to build the 10 vets any way.

I want to build 4 with Grav guns to run with the Sacred Standard in a drop pod. I can't decide if I want either 5 melta or plasma for a second option. Also not sure what to do with the last guy. Any suggestions?

Also RAW state I can arm each with a storm shield without giving anything up. Would I be a Dbag for doing this?

Storm shields don't make them any more survivable against small-arms fire, so not d-baggy at all.

I'd go with melta instead of plasma, as you have easy access to plasma elsewhere (Black Knights), a suicide melta squad is something we can't get elsewhere (i.e. Sternguard).

I also use the robed bodies to represent veteran sergeants in normal units, so that's an option too.

You could build 1 guy with a storm shield to have him try and tank good AP stuff, but I don't think it's worth the points to give them all storm shields.

The ccombi-melta squad is a good suggestion. I'd give 1 guy a straight up meltagun, because you can do it for the same points and it makes the squad more of a threat long-term.

I also use robed guys as sergeants. Gives the army some 1st Legion flair.

You might just hold off on assembling that last guy to see what you need later on.

Don't bother with combi's in this case - give the entire unit straight-up meltaguns. In a Command Squad (instead of a Company Veteran Squad) every Vet gets access to the special weapons list. The advantage of the Company Vets unit is being able to have more than 5 members (which you don't need in a sui-melta unit).

I second what Quanar says. If there is ever a situation you need more than 5 of a special weapon on footsloggers, then it's a situation you probably don't want them to be in in the first place.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

When I'm editing alot, you know I have a gakload of homework to (not) do.
