It looks like a solid box. What's the point value come out to? Would I be playing small games around 500 points?

My suggestion would be to play the Start Collecting box against another Start Collecting box. I believe that was their intention. Not sure of the points cost, but 500 sounds about right.

Factor in the ability to not die and the point value is probably like over 9,000 or something.

The formation itself doesn't have a point value, so the cost would be based on what upgrades you take too. The box costs 421 points in total, with no upgrades - pretty decent G.A

Now that's a good question as well...what are the points values of all of the Start Collecting boxes? (within say 25-50 points).

Interesting. It looks like they're all closer to 300 points rather than 500 (although optimally it should be 400 points since a lot of them go over 300 points).

Yes you should keep in mind those numbers are based off taking no upgrades at all, which would be imbecilic. Still, surprised me that they weren't anywhere near as good as the Necron one, which conveniently is the best value of all of them in technicality; I say technically since you could probably surpass the Necron box with a fair amount of upgrades, since Warriors and Scarabs lack any meaningful upgrades

Most of the "troop" choices and vehicles though would like a minimal of upgrades while characters loaded up to nearly half of the army's total points cost is generally not a wise idea in low-point games, so I'd say 400 is a good place for any of the sets that doesn't break the 350 mark before upgrades.

I mean a Plasma Caliver costs a lot of points, but jesus I feel like Skitarii and DE get shafted in the "play these against eachother"-department.
I would expect horde armies like Orks and Tyranids to have a little less, since the boxes are obviously balanced for $ price before points price (which is a good thing. Don't get me wrong, most people are gonna use these to start of flesh out bigger armies, not stop there and play only these boxes against eachother.)

Implacable Skitarii
|
The Skitarii box is:
1 Tech Priest
10 Rangers/Vanguard
1 Onager Dunecrawler
I'm getting 295pts w/ Vanguard or 315pts with Rangers, before upgrades, which puts them a lil' more in line with the other boxes. And Skitarii upgrades are both expensive and quite necessary, so the force'll probably be approaching 500ish points when actually modelled and gamed with.

Yes, the no upgrades approach makes the results rather odd.
Look at the tau for example, it's about 300 points before upgrades, but no upgrades on crisis suits is silly, it means they got no guns.
The three suits cost 66 bare bones, but realistically its more like 156 after standard upgrades, or even around 231 when you seriously deck them out.
Other factions also has some upgrade heavy units at times, not everyone, but some has units with more points into mandatory upgrades than into the actual model count, or just the ability to give a hell lot of minor upgrades that are not to tier, but help close the point gap.
Not all staters are equal, but the gap isn't very big once you start stacking upgrades.

My mistake, I forgot to flesh out the Ranger unit to 10 models - didn't think they could only take 5

Frankly taking no upgrades on crisis suits is funny. Ususally the suits cost is comprised of half their weapons. I mean, frankly on average a suit will cost at least 42-52 points. Also you seem to have forgotten the 8 man drone squad you get with the tau box.
I came out to 333 points wysiwyg with no upgrades.
50 ethereal
45 5 warriors
60 5 warriors with missile turret
56 4 drones
56 4 drones
66 3 suits
Throw on 2 weapons to each crisis suit and you pop up to 423.

You came out at 333 because you paid for the missile turret - I did not because that is a totally optional upgrade; one that you would want to take yes, but not one I included for the purpose of baseline comparison
Naturally such a comparison has its limits since again, taking no upgrades is ludicrous. If anyone would like to make some basic lists out of the Start Collecting sets, then I'd be interested to see that.
And no, I didn't forget the drones

Seems easy enough to get a dandy bunch of muffins out of the SC Boxes.
Here's a fair-doo 500 pts with the Skitarii one:
1 Tech Priest Dominus
w/ Phosphor Serpenta, Digital Weapons, Stasis Field, Raiment of the T'Martyr.
[165 pts]
1 10-Man Ranger squad
w/ Phosphor Pistol, Taser Goad, Arc Rifle, Arquebus, Caliver, Digi Weps, Omnispex.
[225 pts]
1 Onager Dunecrawler
w/ Heavy Phosphor Blaster, Cognis heavy stubber.
[110 pts]
You get a decent all-rounder, and making solid use of the formation perk with all that Phosphor. Pretty much guaranteed to light something up, which is good.
- This is based off the fact I got the Ranger card, instead of the Vanguard (or both) card, and also making use of everything you see in the kit. (Bar the data tether).
-----
But how about price savings on all the boxes?
Tau:
Crisis suits: £45
Fire Warriors: £30
Ethereal: £10 (A vague one, seeing as this particular Ethereal comes with the Coalition command, which in itself is a saving)
£35
Blood Angels:
Predator: £35
Tactical Squad: £26
Terminator Captain: £20
£31
Chaos Space Marines:
Hellbrute:£33
Marines: £23.50
Terminator Lord: £15
£21.50
Space Wolves:
Thunderwolves: £33
Marines: £23
Wolf Lord: £18.50 (Another iffy one)
£24.50
Orks:
Deff Dread: £33
Boyz: £18 (why 11 of them?)
Nobz: £15.50
Pain Boy: £15.50
£32
Skitarii:
Dunecrawler: £40
Rangers: £23.50
Tech-Priest Dominus: £22
£35.50
Guardsmen:
Leman Russ: £31
Heavy Weapons: £8
Shock Troops: £18
Comissar: £12.50
£19.50
Dark Eldar:
Raider: £22.50
Jetbikes: £24
Warriors: £18
Archon: £14
£28.50
Necrons:
Triarch: £30
Warriors: £22
Overlord: £17
£19
Space Marines:
Dreadnought: £28
Tacticals: £25
Terminator Captain: £20
£23
Tempestus:
Taurox: £29
Scions: £42
Comissar: £12.50
£33.50
Tyranids:
Warriors: £31
Gargoyles: £18
Tyrant: £33
£32
Elderp:
Prism: £31
Windriders: £25
Skyrunner: £20
£26
Think what you will of this.
One one hand, I'm chuffed I got the box with the biggest saving, but irked I have the most expensive army.
But as always, just pick the army that sings truest to you.

Yes I believe the best part about all these boxes is indeed the savings - I consider the Tau one as almost buying a set of Battlesuits and getting a Fire Warrior team and Ethereal chucked in for free.
With upgrades you can certainly get these at least close to 500 points, and with all the savings you made, you can always buy an extra unit of your choosing to bring it up to 500 if you're struggling

I bought my entire Skitarii army before these boxes came out. I would have had 2 extra Tech Priests and even removing those from the equation because I clearly don't need them, I would still have saved over 60 pounds by buying 3 of these kits instead of 3 groups of vanguard/ranger + 3 Onager + 1 Tech Priest. Which happens to be exactly as many of those things as I own.
They are fantastic kits, and I have only praise for GW for releasing these.

I've the same issue, although not as rough as you have.
Started in December, and these things came out, I think, in March?
But by that time, I'd already bought all the boxes for a basic Battle Maniple. (Which I've actually yet to field as a Battle Maniple).
Still would've been nice to have the SC box available back then.
I waited 8 years to get into this. If only I'd waited a couple more months, eh?
