I have a friend who has been using these bad boys and i just took it for granted all the rules he said they had, even tho he dint have the book, it not a huge deal. But he has been doing major damage with these guys to me. So long story short i decided to start a 30k army and just opened my red book and skimmed the Legion Dreadnought Drop Pod. I know 30k books and 40k books can be different but, but the rules he was using were all the same. Especially the part about the shrouded.

The part i want to know is in the 30k version there is last sentence that i think means anything that the Dreadnought shoots at has shrouded as well. Under the Burning Retros rule and how essentially gives a shrouded bonus to intervening models getting shot behind it, it also says "Note that this will also affect the Dreadnought from firing out of the cloud".

I know this is the 30k version. It there a different version for 40k? If so what are the differences? Just want to know next time we play if i can get my shrouded bonus when he lands those bad boys in my lap again.

Thanks for the help.

There is one in 40k.

The lucius pattern from forgeworld. The most up to date version is from IA2 second edition.

The burning retros rule only applies on the game turn the pod arrives and the pod has no weapons.

Also only the pod and the dread gain shrouded(although the dread gaining shrouded that turn is technically impossible, RAW)

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

Jersey Channel islands

The 40k version's shrouded applies to any unit targeted where the LoS passes over or through the drop pod. (last sentence in burning retros rule)

Out of curiosity, and occasionally running the Lucius would that Shroud cover save apply to the Dread inside if somebody hit the Drop Pod with a blast template?

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

If I am not mistaken only a Flamers can effect units inside a open topper transport which s cover save would not effect.

Ok so pretty much since since he is shooting through the drop pod, that has shrouded, the first turn anything he targets get +2 to their cover save. That should help soften the alpha strike a bit.

Shooting "out of cover" does not normally give your target a cover save, so if the dreadnought stays embarked there's no cover save for the target.

To shoot "through cover" the dreadnought would need to disembark on the other side of the drop pod from his target and actually shoot through it.

Citation?

You are right for an Open-topped transport as the Fire points are the edge of the hull(so you are in no way firing through nor over); but in other cases there is nothing stating what you are stating(A hypothetical Smoke grenade as deployable cover with a blast marker used to show the area and similar rules would still grant a model standing on/in the center of the marker's target a cover save.

Also this is again where forgeworld has added extra redundant and useless rules to the pod: it doesn't need the Assault vehicle rule with their justification for it, it is already an assault vehicle for being open-topped.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
