As read in the title, what would be a good starting point for dark mechanicum? The CSM book has a few things, renegades and heretics a little more, but I love the loyalist mechanicum books. I know I can just paint them darker or whatever, but is there a better option I am unaware of? I am asking because my knowledge of the IA books is pretty minimal.

What do you love about the Dark Mech? Narrowing that down will help get some replies. Is it the modeling opportunity, big stompy robots or something else?

Well, we have chaos knights now. I'd love to see more warp touched vehicles. As far as modeling goes, I dress up everything in my armies with a lot of mutations. From sergeants to vehicles. I'd like some rules to go along with them, though. I really like the admech infantry style, and would love to field them alongside what I already have without conflicting alliances, and maybe the ability to bring more warp touched creations. Just curious if there's already a book for dark mech, or if I just have to cobble things together, really.

Simplest thing to do is use the 2 AdMech codices, in tandem with the Daemon Engines in the CSM codex.

And then there's the Taghmata (30k) book, which has a couple of Traitor leaders in it (such as Dreykavak), and doesn't expressly need any other units to make it a Traitor army, beyond what's in it.
(It is 30k, so before Chaos and the Imperium have wildly different things to field).
Dreykavac also has his own Chaos Knight house: Atrax.
If you were to do Renegade Knights, and wanted to follow an existing house pattern, that'd be fair-doo.

There isn't a Dark Mech codex, though. It's always just been a case of "Make you loyalist guys look warpish", and "Ally with Chaos factions instead of Loyalist factions".

Also, there's nothing stopping you from writing custom rules, just so long as your opponent consents to their use. Might need a couple games in before they get balanced, but it's a fun way to make us of kitbashed things.
I actually use an un-warped Defiler with my Skitarii.

I'm working on my own Dark Mech list (that I've made to work for 30k or 40k).

Anyway, in 40k the codices I use are Cult Mech, Skitarii, Inquisition and Officio Assasinorum to represent my Dark Mech army.

I considered Daemon Engines from CSM but I don't want Chaos Space Marines so they got cut.

lol guys we are playing in the 7th edition not in the 5th dark ages. If you want some Chaos hellmachines to ally in with your admech army then you just take the daemon engine pack or the hellbrute formations they are made for this. Or even simpler use the IA Purge detachment that has only a manditory 1Hq +2 Elites. That can be filled with one warpsmith, any combination of hellburtes, contemp dreads, Decimator Daemon Engines, mutilators, and even the exotic things such as Ferrus Infernum or sonic dreads.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
The only thing you need to remember is to stay 6" away from your hellish contraptions with the normal admech stuff or risk suffering from some strange warp tainted side effects.

I think Imperial Armour 13 Renegades list is best for Dark Mechanicum.
