In our last game a penitent engine assaulted through terrain a unit of Necron Praetorians. My Opponent claimed that the Engine having no access to grenades it should fight at initiative 1 and supported his claim through the BRB chapters of Walker Movement and Assault chapters.

Now my question is why I haven't this elsewere in the past 3 editions of WH40k. Has there been a change in the rules that i missed? Am I remembering older editions again Or are walkers in melee subject to another rule that allows them to fight at initiative.
Thanks in advance for your answers...

You shouldn't be worried about the one bullet with your name on it, Boldric. You should be worried about the ones labelled "to whom it may concern"-from Blackadder goes Forth!

There is no other rule, I'm sorry.
Walker is one of the worst unit type unfortunately.

Walkers ignore the Unwieldy rule (from power fists, etc) - perhaps that's what you were thinking of? Otherwise, no. They suffer the initiative penalty from charging through cover just like any other unit.

I think that space marine ironclad dreadnought might be an exception - I think that it has a similar set of grenade launchers to the ones that certain land raiders/centurions can get, allowing it to ignore the initiative penalty. However, it's the only walker that I know of that can do it.

I have no clue how Dakka's moderation work. I expect it involves throwing a lot of d100 and looking at many random tables.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all.
