Can you take named characters from a parent Codex in Supplemental codices?

Depends on the supplement and what it allows access to.

Are you a Wolf, a Sheep, or a Hound?

In the Crimson Slaughter supplement I do not see anything saying you can or cannot take say Huron Blackheart, however in Battlescribe it removes all named characters.

'Renegades of the Dark Millennium' on page 50 of the Crimson Slaughter supplement explains why you can not have Huron Blackheart in a Crimson Slaughter detachment.

IIRC Crimson Slaughter prevents you from taking units with VotLW, which the named characters tend to have.

Battlescribe is only as reliable as the programmer and not to be taken as a final say. While many can be very good, even the best make mistakes. Also, it may depend on what perspective one applies to the rules, which I will mention later.

As to Crimson Slaughter, it starts off with:
A Crimson Slaughter army is chosen using the army list presented in Codex: Chaos Space Marines.

This means it starts with allowing Huron Blackheart since he is presented in Codex: Chaos Space Marines. As you said, no Unique model is specifically addressed in this supplement.

It depends on how you use the word "take" in the Renegades of the Dark Millenium supplement rule with its restriction against those who can take Veterans of the Long War includes those which start with Veterans. Is "take" an active action which is addressing the Options of a datasheet, or also considers what is listed under Special Rules of the datahseet?

To put it another way, if one takes the perspective that only the listed units can have possession of Veterans of the Long War, then Huron is left out as default, and it is possible that the Battlescribe author has taken that perspective.

Are you a Wolf, a Sheep, or a Hound?

The new supplement no longer says "take". It just says "have" and specificially makes an exception for cult troops. So it all depends on which version of the supplement you're reading, but the new one clearly forbids you from taking models with it as default.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

When I'm editing alot, you know I have a gakload of homework to (not) do.

New? I only know of the original, and there are no live FAQs for it.

Or is that in the Draft?
