I just bought a cheap Land Raider off eBay and it needs a new set of tracks on one side. the problem is, I can't find Land Raider tracks for love nor money and the only tracks I can find come with the side hull assembly and cost more than I got the rest of the LR for! So I was wondering if I could get some cheap Rhino tracks and use them instead. If anybody could quickly measure the width, I'd be very much obliged.

Rhino tracks might be 2/3 of the width of Land Raider tracks. What about press moulding the tracks on the one side of the Land Raider?

Rhino tracks are a lot smaller than land raider track pieces.
Not just narrower, they are shorter, as well (per link).

If you can't press mold them, another thought if the other side's tracks aren't attached yet would be making a new link or three out of plasticard, and then press molding that, for both sides so they match better. Be a good bit of work though.

I'd say use third party tracks, someone named machinator makes some great treads though they have a more retro 30k aesthetic.

I prefer to buy from miniature manufacturers that *don't* support the overthrow of democracy.

Rhino tracks are 10mm and Land Raider tracks are 15mm.

I have two Raiders with some blood and skulls tracks. They look great but required a fair amount of cleaning up. Which is tedious when done in the quantities necessary for a LR.

The tracks you do have aren't glued on?

Presumably both sides' tracks will need to look the same? - (unless it's for a chaos or ork army )

Hmm, _two_ sets of rhino tracks could be glued side by side? Would need some trimming in the middle though, which could be a lot of work.

Another option would be to use the tracks you have for the front and rear of _both_ sides (might need plasticard mudguards added to hide some of the missing track), then build plasticard track replacements for the bottom - relatively simple as only the sides will be visible. Also quite a bit of work though...

@chromedog - Thanks for the comparison - appreciate it.

@Dreadclaw69 - I had thought of press molding them. The problem I find is that the greenstuff I mold is far too flexible even after long periods of curing, which tends to result in 'melted' details. I wonder if i could press-mold the tracks with Milliput instead as I hear it's far more rigid after curing?

@Vejut - Whilst I appreciate the suggestion, I think you're right in saying it would be a lot of work. Similarly, I'd have to go out and buy some plasticard and a pack of plasticard costs as much as just buying the whole side of the hull. I was trying to keep the costs as low as possible, because otherwise I may as well have just bought a LR at full price and had all the spare bits to boot. Thanks all the same.

@PiPaPo, SlaveToDorkness + Scarlet Rose - Thanks for pointing out those different sellers. They aren't exactly what I'm looking for, but I may get some other stuff off them in future. Cheers!

@Clang - Yeah, they'll need to look the same. I'm not sure two Rhino tracks glued together would have the right effect and I'd rather not buy plasticard for the aforementioned reason. Anyway, thanks for your input.

If you find a a totaly gaky, scrapped and battered land raider on ebay cheap . If tracks intact you could transplant them off the one to the other?

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.
