How are wolf scouts used? my friend plays space wolves and often tells me they're useless, are they?

Are they worse than the updated vanilla marine scouts? Yeah they are.
Are they still somewhat fun to use as a reliable outflanking unit or snipers? They can be and I have had decent results with a small unit of sniper scouts plinking away at special weapons, MCs, and non independent characters.
Until GW updates their points cost or gives them something worthwhile then they won't be as good as vanilla scouts.

Wer're using 6th ed awesomeness which is now outdated. BS4 Scouts were once a thing. Now they're everywhere...

Our Scouts look cool, they have decent options that other Scouts do not.

I found 4 Snipers, 1 Missile, all with camo to be 99pts which is effective. However, the Vanilla 'dex equivalent is something like 20pts cheaper - tho lacking in Acute Senses and Counter-Charge which are really just perks but not at all game changing for typical use.

I stopped going Scouts for my Elite choice when the new FAQ's spoke of having the choice of Iron Priests as Elite or HQ.

Sniper scouts are terrible because they're snipers.

Basic squads of bolter scouts are alright to hold an objective. They're still the worst scout by a long shot.
