Hope I am putting this question in the right forum.

BL put out 4 Ciaphas Cain books not on any chronological lists. They are:

Mug of recaf
Hidden Depth
Little Thing
Smallest detail

Can anyone help me figure out where these 4 books go in storyline?

1. Fight or Flight (Short Story)
2. Sector 13 (Short Story)
3. The Beguiling (Short Story)
4. Death or Glory (Novel)
5. Echoes of the Tomb (Short Story)
6. The Emperor's Finest (Novel)
7. Dead in the Water (Audio Book)
8. For the Emperor (Novel)
9. Caves of Ice (Novel)
10. Duty Calls (Novel)
11. The Traitor's Hand (Novel)
12. Old Soldiers Never Die (Novella)
13. The Last Ditch (Novel)
14. Traitor's Gambit (Short Story)
15. The Greater Good (Novel)
16. Cain's Last Stand (Novel)

Pretty sure this should go in the background section. I'll message the mods. Unfortunantely I can't help since I havn't read the short stories but seems like you got the rest of it right.

His pattern of returning alive after being declared dead occurred often enough during Cain's career that the Munitorum made a special ruling that Ciaphas Cain is to never be considered dead, despite evidence to the contrary.

Well, the Smallest Detail is a Gunner Jurgen story. So it has to come after he's attached to the Valhallan artillery.

Unfortunately Jurgen doesn't mention what guard regiment they're with, and nor do we see Caine during the story.

There are "local gangers", and they're selling food on the black market from a PDF depot, so they've been deployed to a city, and one where Jurgen is driving around to requisition stuff - so it's not The Last Ditch or Caves of Ice warzones, or Perlia.

I'm making my way through Death or Glory and they are headed towards Perlia.

Unfortunately, its not like the HH series where it lists the order near the front of the book. And I have all digital ebooks and there is no book order listed. Maybe that is something only the paper books have, not sure.

The paper books have the published order printed on the first page, which is not the same as the chronological order. Since the books are written from the perspective of Inquisitor Amberly Vail going over the Cain archives I think it makes sense to read it in the published order. I like the idea that Amberly publishes the books as reading materials for her Inquisitorial colleuges in the same order as Cain wrote them.
