Welcome, I thought I would make a blog here so I could post pics of both finished minis, and my half-finished one. Hopefully it will motivate me to finish more of the projects. Constructive criticism and advice is welcome!

The cloth being held aloft by cherubs is from the Celestine the Living Saint mini. The rock is a piece of bark, the mushrooms are from Kromlech.

Tactical Squad

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I've begun building a Cataphractii Terminator Squad, and I'll give all but one Lightning Claws. I like the idea of Terminators that are both able of dishing out some anti-intantry firepower, and strike at I4 in close combat. I suspect that their inability to run will make them pretty inflexible once they've left their transport.

Since this is the Imperial Fists, I made sure to include an anti-armour Devastator Squad. One of the Lascannons has been converted using the handle from a heavy bolter.

Very nice. Love how you've based/posed the terminators.

The Vindi looks awesome too!

The grim darkness of far Fenland

I really like the bright and contrasting colours - especially on Lysander. Reminds me of the 2nd ed style (in a good way!).

The marine with bolt pistol on the vindicator is a great touch!

Dark Angels/Deathwing - just getting started!
Space Marines - Stark Crusaders 4500pts/PL244 (2700pts painted)

Contemptor Dreadnought WIP

This was once a Contemptor Mortis, but then a friend's cat broke it. The pieces spent ages gathering dust. But then the Angels of Death book came out,
and I felt an urge to use the bits to build a Contemptor Dreadnought. I added a lot of bits and pieces, and had some problems with misshapen resin.

I REALLY wanted to paint checkers I guess I'll have to invent some sort of background story about how the checkers are the markings for a particular war or campaign. It's the dour and no-nonsense Imperial Fists after all, they don't do anything just for fun.

Is it just me or your pictures are taken with yellow light?

Either way, I love the miniature and the conversion work you did on it. The base is looking great. Share your steps ?

Awesome painting and conversions. I love the Edward Scissor Hands look of the heavy flamer dude.

Teban> My steps are fairly simple, they take a bit time, but I don't mind that. As a basic rule, I water down my paint and make sure that the figure is dry before I add new paint.

THE YELLOW

1: Spray the marines with Citadel Chaos Black.
2: Thin down Averland Sunset with water (I use distilled water), and give the marines several thin coats, so that the result will be smooth and not clump or cover details.
3: Put Seraphim Sepia Shade all over the marine. I thin it down a bit with water, and give the figure two coats.

The result will be a yellowish-brown marine.

4: Then it's time to build up the yellow. For this, I thin down Averland Sunset A LOT (it should be like milk). I then paint the marine, except where there should be dark shadows. When that coat is dry, I apply a new thin coat, but this time a bit INSIDE the area I just painted. The transition between the thin layers will make it look like a gradient, when seen from a distance. The method be illustrated in this way:

5: After that, I repeat step 4 but with Yriel Yellow (inside the previously painted area), and then Flash Gitz Yellow (again inside the previously painted area). You can make the transition from dark to light colors as slow or fast as you want, it's all about taste.

6: If you want some very bright edges and highlights, you can use Dorn Yellow.

THE RED

I paint the red areas with Mephiston Red, shade them with Carroburg Crimson, and highlight them with Mephiston Red and finally Evil Sunz Scarlet.

THE BOLTGUN METAL

Leadbelcher, shaded with Guilliman Blue, then highlighted with Leadbelcher.

THE OTHER METAL BITS

Leadbelcher, shaded with Nuln Oil, then highlighted with Leadbelcher.

THE GOLD PARTS

First Mournfang Brown. Then Gehenna’s Gold, shaded with Agrax Earthshade.

BONE AND PURITY SEALS

Screaming Skull, shaded with Agrax Earthshade.

WHITE
White Scar, shaded with Nuln Oil, then highlighted with White Scar.

Thanks!

I thought my yellow had too many steps ! If I may ask, what did you use for that ammo crate?

Cheers!

Teban> The ammo crate is from this Tamiya WW2 kit: http://www.alwayshobbies.com/plastic-models/military-/tamiya-german-tank-ammo$9loading-crew-1$535-scale-military-miniatures-plastic-model-kit

I'm not quite sure, but I think I painted it this way:

I began by painting the ammo crate brown, and then shaded it with Agrax Earthshade and then a lot of Waywatcher Green (to build up a rotten, green color in the cracks and gaps). Then I drybrushed it with Hellion Green, to bring out the texture in the wood, and shaded it with Waywatcher Green again (because Hellion Green is a crazy, bright color). The slime is just Nurgle's Rot, shaded with Agrax Earthshade. The ammo inside was painted with Leadbelcher, shaded with Nuln Oil and then Agrax Earthshade.

Imperial Recruit in Training

Runcorn, UK

I used to follow some Imperial Fists plogs back over on Warseer, since it's apparent demise I'd been keeping an eye out for a new one and what a good plog it is.

I really like the yellow and the weathering effects looks very good indeed. I think it's often difficult to pose Space Marines in ways that look natural, especially Terminators, but the posing looks real natural on these so well done there. Some decent conversions using a good variety of 40k and Heresy bits. Consider me very envious of your painting skills.

Very excellent models, sir!

Oh yes, a question. Do you hand paint the insignias or are they transfers?
