I've just gotten around to picking up my first drop pod (I know). Now I have 5 armies in power armour, and plan to do a 6th in the not too distant future (that wb rite of war for pure gal vorbak shenanigans). That's a lot of armies that are eligible for drop pod usage. Drop pods that would likely have paint scorched black by atmospheric entry, which then land and crack the doors open. I've been wondering about just painting them in a plain silver and black with no distinct markings so that they can be used with any army. Does anyone else do this? I'm not bothered about saving the cash, just the painting time.

Yeah, why not.
You could magnetise the chapter specific insignia just to make the whole thing look a little more finished and add a splash of colour.

What if you painted it with burn marks and stuff so it looks like it just entered the atmosphere? Maybe all the pretty paint burnt off?

I'd go with (Codex!) Grey as the base colour, then go to town with blackening and scorch marks, etc. I think magnetising chapter badges (if you can be bothered) would also be a nice tohch.

Cheers everyone. Glad to know people wouldn't have an issue with it. Thanks for the pic sqrt(-2), that's given me some good inspiration

I plan to do the same thing with my drop pods, painting them in a simple black and grey scheme to keep them generic.

"You listen to me. While I will admit to a certain cynicism, the fact is that I am a naysayer and hatchetman in the fight against violence. I pride myself in taking a punch and I'll gladly take another because I choose to live my life in the company of Gandhi and King. My concerns are global. I reject absolutely revenge, aggression, and retaliation. The foundation of such a method... is love. I love you Sheriff Truman." - Twin Peaks
