The backfield units are the warpsmith, cultists, helbrute, and forgefiend. Cultists are fearless objective holders and the helbrute's meat shields. Helbrute is backfield support (plasma cannon) along with the Forgefiend (BS5). The warpsmith is there to repair the forgefiend and helbrute and assist the helbrute in case of outflanking or deep striking threats. The heldrake helps the 'hail mary pass' troop choices get upfield to either take objectives or pose significant threat to MEQ or heavy armor depending on the unit. The warlord, cabal, and spawn (hopefully shrouded or invisible) act as a bullet sponge charging dead center so they can get in range with psychic shrieks and allow the maulerfiend to get within striking distance.

The one big weakness I see is heavy armor. The only units I have to take care of heavy armor is a 5 man CSM squad and the maulerfiend (and hopefully doombolt on my warlord/aspiring sorc and the shroud of deceit). I could swap out some points for a couple of Oblits, but it doesn't really feel right with my fluff. Likewise I could make the warlord less ridiculous, but he's the center of all the fluff. I would love any and all feedback on this list. I'm not hoping for a tournament list (because, ya know, CSM), just something that fits into my fluff that can hold its own against my semi-competitive loyalist meta. Thanks!

The one big weakness i see is that the entire csm codex is over pirced and under powered.

try mixing in forge world. Consider typhon siege tank and sicaran tanks and fire raptor gunships.
