I've started work on some new eldar that i've gotten my hands on. I've started painting with a test guardian in an Ulthwe scheme, and im looking for a little feedback from the rest of Dakka. With this tester i feel like something is still missing, and im not quite sure what. I know it hasn't been based yet, im planning a tundra style, unless anyone else has something they think may work better.
I am also thinking of playing around with afew other craftworld color schemes, Mostly Saim Hann, and possible Mymeara.

I like it! It does need a little bit more areas of color. Maybe the face plate in white? Or yellow with a thin line of orange on the seam inside.

Shoulder pads and knee pads are great places to add extra color to Eldar.
You could always paint the eyes as well. I agree that the face plate should be painted another color.
I do like the grey lining you have done, and the gun looks well done. The gems may be a bit dark for the figure, since he is so dark as well.
Good luck!

I've done alittle extra work, a few extra Ulthwe Tests, and afew Saim Hann tests as well. I've picked out what i think to be the best example of the two schemes so far, and i'd like to see what you guys think between the two.

They look great! The contrasting face plate makes a huge difference. Personally, I tend to like to paint the guns in a couple of colours so that they don't just look like one bit of plastic, but that isn't really necessary and would be a pain if you're painting a whole army.

Black is tough. I've always liked the Saim-Hann scheme personally.
Remember also on your black figures, your base can be a nice contrasting colour to help bring out the models. If you did a reddish brown base they'd stand out pretty well. Also you can always add some piercing eyes.

As an Ulthwé collector myself, I suggest you to give a little more effort on the black: it is a very difficult color and in my experience is also the color that make me proud of my models (or not); if you are not happy with them you will be shortly tired of painting black. Keep the highlights darker and thin because the Guardian armor is very flat and in my opinion every highlight is too much exalted.
Did you paint the gemstones with the new gemstones paint? How do you rate them? I always painted my Eldar's gems red with the classic method.

I'm actually quite happy with the black for the most part, that last photo doesn't show it so well, but it has a varied tone to it, using an airbrush I started with vmc black, then broad highlights of vmc German grey, and medium sea grey, then tied back in with a filter/wash of nuln oil. I'm still trying to pick out the edge highlight color I want to use, that one is fenris grey. I've tried dawnstone, but that seemed too dark for my liking. As they are right now, it's about as thin as I can manage.
As for the gemstones, yes that ulthwe one was done with the gemstone paints. My honest opinion of them is that I'll go back to the classic method. I don't think you get anywhere near as nice of a result with the new paints.
Now, I just need to decide which of the craftworlds I'm going to go with. I like both results, and it seems so does the Internet.
