So many good choices, and so many creative ways to field them. What are your favorite Necron HQ tactics? What have you found to be the most powerful, most universal, or just plain fun?

Destroyer lord with the Nightmare Shroud, Phase Shifter, Warscythe and just go Yolo into the nearest enemy.

I just have an unhealthy love for Destroyer lords.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

Destroyer Lord, void reapier, phase shifter, join a blob of 15 to 20 warriors, put them near a Triarch Stalker, so you could have BS10 blob to Gauss anything to death. While the lord can defend them from the being charged by MCs.

This would be in a Decurion.

An Overlord with war scythe, a Destroyer Lord with war scythe and Nightmare Shroud, and a Royal Court (comprised of Orikan, Overlord with warscythe, and a Lord with warscythe) join a full unit of Harvest Wraiths.

The resulting Wraithstar gets to re-roll its 3++ invuls on 1s, gets preferred enemy everything, and sports 5 ap2 str 7 weapons.

Moreover, the Destroyer Lord gets a 2+ re-rollable armour save!

Yeah, a destroyer lord with some wraiths can be pretty nasty. Also adding Orikan in there for some additional saves I quite nice.

Has anyone had any luck fielding Szeras and Anrakyr with a unit of Immortals?

I've rolled with Szeras with a full unit of Immortals. Getting T5 on that group feels like cheating.

I take a naked Necron Overlord and add him to the a unit of warriors. He's either ignored or murderd by some blingout HQ. In either case I didn't find that loading him up with wargear made a difference in how that turned out.

It also helps that my playstyle involves large numbers of Scarabs, Spyders, and Warriors on the board, so the enemy usually has more important things to worry about.

I run mine with Warscythe and Phase Shifter accompanied by Sword/Board Lychguard. It's too much of a threat to be ignored, but soaks so much damage while the rest of my army wins the game.

I still like running an overlord with a warscythe and a phase shifter in a catacomb comand barge and letting him tie up units while everything else gets a chance to get into shooting range.

I wish the Barge still had the Invul save on the chariot or some special ability where all pens become glances so that it would be playable against more than just a couple of armies.

Orikan and Vargard as Butt Buddies in a Lychstar. Throw in a D-Lord or Overlord with Nightmare Shroud or Veil of Darkness for bous points!

Destroyer Lord gets the Voidreaper, another or the Overlord gets the Nightmare Shroud, and then a Cryptek or Lord gets the Solar Staff. That's about what I do with the generic choices.

I don't usually give the Voidreaper to the D Lord. I usually give it to an Overlord in the unit he attaches to since the Overlord has WS 5.

I usually give the Nightmare Shroud to the D. Lord since he is a jet pack unit that can hop into the front of a unit of Wraiths with his Thrust move to tank with his 2+ save.

He doesn't need to tank with a 2+. 3+/4++/4+++ with the occasional rerolls is just fine when you got enough toughness and tons of extra wounds. Plus with PE he gets more rerolls and wounds more often. Rather, since an Overlord is usually in a slower unit, he needs to be able to tank shots so that he can make sure his unit survives and makes it to combat.

Yeah, I'm happy they made the D-Lord much better.

As for me, my personal favorite unit is an Overlord with the Voidreaper, Phase Shifter, Phylactery, and Gauntlet of Fire protected by 5-10 Sword and Board Lychguard marching up the field.

Voidreaper on a D-lord is mean. Preferred enemy with a Fleshbane weapon is mmmmmm good.

Another favorite build of mine since this codex is a shooty, defensive Overlord. Give him the Gauntlet of the Conflagrator, leave him with a Staff of Light, and put him on a barge with a Gauss Cannon. He has a bubble of rerolling LD checks, and with the Decurion, he has a larger base for his 12" bubble of reroll 1s for RP. Then he can grab objectives and chuck out 5 AP3 shots at things that get close.

Out of my Mind

Zahndrekh and Warriors are still my 'Go To' tactic combo.
- 'Zealot' is great to have T1, especially for those 1st Turn Alpha Strikers.
- 'Target Priority' is really great when you're spamming Gauss. Better if you've got a Stalker around.
- 'Fearless' with a block of Warriors has often forced my opponent to grind them down till the game ends.
- 'Relentless' (when not running a Decurion). This can really throw my opponents off, they simply don't see it coming.

Szeras and Warriors has also worked well. Getting that free buff on 20 models, a bubble +RP, and 'Immortal Hubris' have all been great in low point or non-Decurion games.
