So, I see people taking artifacts like the black mace or a burning brand in this formation. Both seem like good options. What I'm wondering is how people are doing this. Maybe I'm interpreting the rules wrong but I was under the impression that black legion units can only take black legion specific artifacts. Also new to the site so I'm not sure where to post things like this, hope here is ok haha.

Its a supplement to codex:csm so you can use anything that is in the base codex if you use the supplement. However you can not pick extras from the supplement if you are using codex:csm, its an important distinction.

The codex i was reading said characters from a black legion detachment can't take chaos artifacts found in the csm codex and instead only have access to the ones in the BL codex.

Edit: TBH I'm looking at a PDF I found online as I'm still deciding if I want to go that direction. Maybe its not a full version.

That is the old version of the supplement you're reading.
I have the new one (with the formation in it) in paperback copy right in front of me- and Black Legion can use any CSM relic, as well as any CSM formation can be a Black Legion formation.

The "new" supplement came out a few months back- it is pretty much exactly the same except for a few changes (like what we're talking about) and a few formations. .... Cuz- chaos gets all the best updates ..
