Hi, not sure if this has been answered in FAQs somewhere, but can an IC join a unit of outflankers and outflank with them? e.g. a space marine captain join a unit of scouts.

Also interested if the reverse is true too? E.g. an IC with scout joining a tactical squad

Sorry if this is obvious!

yep, because scout is a rule that is shared if at least 1 model in the unit has it. Also, Scout only happens after deployment was done, so everyone already has Scout by the time it happens.

For Scout sure, the rule transfers
But what about Infiltrate? Which doesn't transfer?

I'd have to see the rule for "Outflank", but I'm not near my BRB right now

It depends on the source of Outflank. If from the Rule Outflank or Scout, then yes. If from the Infiltrate rule, then no. In and of itself, Outflank and Scout only require one model in the unit to have the rule for the unit to use it.

Infiltrate is the same way, but the IC rule prevents non-Infiltrators from joining Infiltrators in the deployment phase, and vice versa. The Draft FAQ pretty much states that "Infiltrators" are units with the Infiltrate special rule.

This would prevent your Space Marine Captain from joining your Marine Scouts in Outflank unless he also has Infiltrate. Do note that there is a Unique Captain which does have Infiltrate, but he can only join Jump Infantry in Reserves, so wouldn't be able to join the Scouts on the Outflank.

From the DraFtAQ:

Q: Infiltrate rules state that an Independent Character without Infiltrate cannot join a squad of Infiltrators. Does this mean a squad that is actively Infiltrating or just any unit that has the Infiltrate rule? This matters for things like Outflank (granted freely by the Infiltrate rule) and Infiltrate units that have Deep Strike.
A: An Independent Character without the Infiltrate special rule cannot join a unit of Infiltrators during deployment, whether they are Infiltrating, Deep Striking, Outflanking or deploying normally. They are free to join units as they wish after deployment.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Thanks for the clarification guys, I did know about the infiltrator rule, but didn't know that it worked differently for scouts! I guess that means my DA bike librarian can outflank with a unit of bikers then rather than having to come on from my board edge

Cheers!
