Helping Kenpachi

Hello my name is Chad Knight, I am a tall black guy usually in sandals at tournaments (is this a dating website ) if you see me at a tournament come speak I like matching dakka names with faces. Now that the intro is over I would like to say that I am a very good player I have had minor success in the current tournament scene and several top 8 performance in the past at major tournaments. This year I am not able to go to a lot of ITC tournaments and I think reaching my goal is out of reach. When does the 2017 ITC season start? I am starting this thread to ask for help in making a competitive ITC list.

I decided to play Tau because I feel like offensively they have an answer for everything and I want an American theme Tau army! I like both the Dawn Blade Contingent and the Hunter Contingent but because of the signature systems I am going with the Hunter Contingent. Whenever I make a list I take notes to help keep my thoughts organized as there are so many formations, allies, and combos that I find it hard to start!

My Initial thoughts on Hunter Contingent:
Needs MSU to take advantage of Coordinated Firepower Special Rule
Take Advantage of Unbreakable Bonds of Comradeship 12 inch Fire Support
Use jetpacks and Ambushes and Feints to create over watch from hell
Use an Ethereal to increase the firepower of the shots and over watch

I do not want my initial post to be crazy long so I would like to know what you guys think of my initial thoughts. Or if you have any helpful tips at all for a young Tau player let me know.

Thanks

The new FE codex let's you take the Tau Empire signature systems AND the FE ones. So you're good to go if you wish to play the dawn blade with a buff commander.

EDIT: As far as the ethereal goes, with how GW rules that auras do not work from inside vehicles/buildings I'd seriously reconsider using him. He's just too easy to kill and gives up unnescessary points from taking him out.

I don't know if I should be happy or sad I don't want to buy another book I just paid for the war zone damocles book. Are the auxiliary formation choices the same (riptide wing, drone network) or different if I use Dawn blade with the tau empire signature systems? Do I have to pay for that 1 point upgrade? Sorry, I guess I am asking for more specifics on the options of using the dawn blade with the signature systems from the tau codex.

Yeah, all the same restrictions apply as before - they just let you buy the empire stuff for your commander.

One thing to note tho, the riptide wing is *not* an auxiliary choise for the dawn blade. You'll need to burn a detachment for it since it's just a formation and not part of any of the decurion -style formations.

EDIT: and it being it's own detachment - it can't benefit from the dawn blade bonus rerolls.

After a deeper look I found a formation that I really like its the Ranged Support Cadre.

3xPathfinder Squads
3xBroadside Units

Each marker light from the pathfinder squad has double the value if used by one of the broadside units. The pathfinders also have shrouded and infiltrate as long as they don't move or fire something besides their marker lights! The thing I like the most is that the broadsides can provide overwatch for the pathfinders at any range as long as their weapons are in range! So basically it takes my idea of overwatch from hell to another level!

This is what I am thinking.

3 x 5 Pathfinder squads
3 x 2 Broadsides High Yield Missile Pods Smart Missiles 4xMissile Drones Counter Fire Defense System

The pathfinder squad on average will have 2-3 hits that is enough to make the moving broadsides hit on a 2+ or 4+ and ignore cover. The best part is during overwatch if 1 of those five marker lights hit the broadsides will hit on 3+ because i gave them counter fire defense system! With this formation I basically have mass strength seven covered and because of shrouded and infiltrate the pathfinders are really good!

I need some form of Ap 2 to go with all this dakka, I am thinking riptide wing or warp hunters! What do you guys think?
