Hi guys,

I'm currently building a FW dread mob, and I've procured a meka dread to lead the force. However, I am yet to order any arms for it - what load out works best?

I'm planning on equipping it with a KFF, and cannot decide whether to give it kill saws (S10 AP2 Shred), Rippa Klaws (S10 AP2 Sunder), or one of those and a Shunta (24" range Heavy 1 S8 AP4 3" blast).

Can anyone offer any insight? Thanks!

I'd say the kill saws are better since vehicles are unlikely to be the ones causing you much trouble given how many have rear armour 10 or less (which means you auto-pen most of the time anyways) and the re-roll one's to wound help deal with whiffing against units of chaff infantry that try to block you in CC. I would avoid the shunta altogether since it really doesn't add anything that an ork army (much less a dred mob) needs given its not even a large blast nor does it have enough AP or RoF to consider it worthy exchanging, especially given its prohibitive cost.

I've often just taken it with the megacharga and had it run alongside the rest of my Ork dreads trying to rush into combat with my deff dreadz and megadreadz while kanz and mek gunz try to whittle them down from range. The KFF upgrade I find is overpriced (25 more points than one on foot) and that the coverage is limited compared to that of a morkanaut or a Big Mek with KFF. Also, given that the meka dread has a built in invuln. of 5+ already means you're really only getting it for the other walkers near you which is not always guaranteed.

I enjoy the shunta just for the look. And if you're brining a meka dread with a KFF, you're not worried about being point efficient. A morkanaut, crappy as it is, is far superior to a meka dread for cheaper, IIRC.

I'd ditto the kill saw, for the reasons said by the above poster.

If you are crazy and want to field a meka dread but want to still somehow be points efficient, a big zzap gun is decent-ish option. Or, I should say, better than a rattler kannon, at least.

Okay, that's interesting!

I'd not properly considered the Kill Saw, or anything other than the KFF. How does the Megacharga usually work out?

The mega charga is okay, it's good for when you have to bank on getting in on a charge to avoid getting shot at more. But really its only taken because you HAVE to choose an upgrade and its the cheapest one where the drawback (being immobilized) can be fixed by your own in built fixin klaws.

Makes sense - more points for more dreads! Sounds like a megacharga kill saw dread is the way to go. I might get a Shunta at a later date to swap in/out for aesthetic reasons.
