Morning all been toying with the idea of a renegade and heretics army for awhile now and decided to take the plunge. Want it to start off as a small core army and then expand - its going to be an army I can either use as a detachment with my CSM or as a loan army for mates to play with. First step done, I've managed to get a copy of IA13 so I have the unit stats just need to plan out what I'm going to buy/looking for inspiration etc.
After recently spending serious dough on my CSM (just shelled out £100 on the bits to make 2 squads of 8 noise marines! :S) I am going to make this is cheaper endeavour. I am captivated by the idea of squats and this seems like the perfect opportunity to combine both ideas. I need inspiration though, my main vision atm is of a IG style infantry and tank heavy army. Anyone got any ideas for troops/the HQ renegade command squad or any other unit proxies, I've been looking at these Mantic Ironwatch Dwarves and picked some up off ebay to have a look:

You can kit them out with either crossbows or a rifle (thinking las/autogun) and most importantly there cheap. Think I paid around £10 for 20 of them! I will have to try and find some special/heavy weapons and get them to look right on the models with the hand positions but I can't find any better candidate than these dwarfs for squat infantry. Please any inspiration, links, advice on building the army etc I would be very grateful. I am very unfamiliar with the army still and how it plays but it looks like I can run tanks + large squads of infantry which is kinda what I want, I don't have a clue what would be effective but I'm thinking to start off with a HQ, a couple of squads of troops and a couple of cheap leman russes.

Look at the Horus herecy rules for Cults they are quite adaptable to play any kind of human or ab human guard like army.

My perosnal advise take a serious look at the Renegade Rapier Laser Destroyer Batteries. You can make some cool warmachines for them and they are dirt cheap for the amount of fire power they have

Cheers guys, I will check out the Renegade Rapiers hopefully add some cheap potency points wise. Oooow didn't see those 'space dwarfs' by Mantic will look into them and cost them up too.
