Take a look at this custom weapon I put together. It's supposed to be a kind of demon, chaos, scythe-type weapon wreathed in ghostly flame. I found a couple of posts that mentioned you can get a ghostly flame effect by using Nihilakh Oxide, a green wash, and then a blue/grey highlight but the effect is just horrible. There's no contrast.

I'm at a loss on how to clean this up. If it needs to be completely re-done I'm open to any suggestions. The effect I am trying to get is a sorcerous weapon in ghostly fire. You can see also there's a face in the weapon I need that to Pop out more

Well, I would sculpt the flames more, 'tease' the green stuff more.

Also, it looks like your fire is backwards. The hottest parts should be the light colors and the cooler parts the dark color.

Colors are different but the consept is the same, basickly you do the inverse of your usual shading when doing fire.

Yeah, I agree, I think you're fighting the sculpt.
It's a very oddly shaped weapon made more out of proportion by the thick flame sculpting.
Take a look at some flames and flaming weapons for some more ideas on how to do it better.

I take it you can't ditch the scythe and just go for a regular flaming sword? I think you'll find that much easier to look right as there is a lot more reference out there.

For me, if a scythe were to be aflame, I would expect the flames to just be on the blade, rather than the handle, as that's the bit that's doing the nasty work.

Let us know how you get on

EDIT:

Kind of like this:
