Hello all,

I have a general question regarding banner and horn blowers in a unit.

Which weapon do they have, in addition to the banner / horn, or do they not have any other weapons?

For instance, if we look at the mournfang pack, a model could be a horn blower. However, does that mean he has no other weapon, and is essentially useless in combat? I have a hard time believing this is true, but i am still confused. If, in fact, he has a weapon, how do you decide which one he has?

Thanks.

When it comes to weapons, he is treated like any other ordinary grunt in the unit. He just has an extra ability from being the musician/banner bearer.

So if your Mournfang unit would be armed with Ogor Clubs and Iron Fists, so would the musician/banner.

this makes sense, but what if the unit is armed with different types of weapons? Like some have clubs and others the 2-handed gorehacka? What does the musician guy have then? do i just freely choose or? Since i don't think every model in the unit has to be armed with the same weapon, right?

Reading the Mournfang Pack Warscroll all models in the unit do indeed need to be armed the same (as is most often the case). Note it says "Some Mournfang packs are armed with.... Other Mournfang packs are armed with..." Etc. This indicates that all the models must be armed identically.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Oh dear that changes everything!! thanks a lot for clarifying this!

So, if i assemble my mournfang pack like this:
1 Skalg (leader guy)
1 Hornblower
1 Banner
1 "normal" dude with a two-handed gargant hacker

Does this mean that, since i assembled the last guy with the gargant hacker, they ALL now have gargant hackers? Looking at the models it looks more like they have the clubs though?

If you're playing WYSIWYG, then yes, they all have Gargant Hackers. Unless there is an exception in the Warscroll (like Khorne Blood Warriors) that states "one in every X models may instead be armed with X weapon", they must all have the same weapon. If you don't play WYSIWYG, like me and the people I play with, you can use some "artistic license". My Doom Knight has an ensorcelled sword to set him apart visually, but in terms of game play, he has a Chaos Glaive like the rest of the unit. Bear in mind, that wouldn't be allowed in Tournement play.
