Subject: ironfire RoW and bikes

Apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere, but as I build my Iron Warriors, and plan my next purchases, I've clocked what seems like a good combo. With scout, high mobility, and the potential for a large unit foot-print, a unit of bikes seems like an ideal unit to get the most out of the buffs given by the ironfire RoW. Am I missing something here, or should I be considering a unit or two?
Cheers for any input, I've only just really started looking at 30k properly so am in full on kid in sweet shop mode

It's probably a good combo but 30k is more about fluffy armies than ones which find the greatest possible combinations of units and I'm not sure how fluffy bikes are for iron warriors. I'm not saying they can't be taken or even that they aren't fluffy but that I just don't know much about their on warriors fluff.

I agree with you, I'd rather approach building a legion as a legion, with emphasis on a trait rather than be restricted by it. I know I am fine fluff/crunch wise, I was more thinking tactically if it works.

The issue with bikes as I see it is their limited damage output. They are expensive for a single twin-linked boltgun. You can add special weapons, but that quickly makes them very expensive.
It works, naturally, everything has drawbacks. It does not seem like the golden answer, however.

Oh I'm not after a no fun game winning battering ram of a tactic. They can be given power weapons and melta bombs to give them a punch, but that isn't the point. Scout ahead, then 12" move followed by a turbo boost puts them pretty much wherever you want them. First barrage attack lands max 2" away from desired target. Then everything else within the applicable ranges auto hitting. 90 points to guarantee hits on all those medusas and quad launchers just seems, worthy of consideration

Oh yeah, if you are going quad launchers then my joy quickly wanes.
Those things are utterly terrifying.

I'm only going to have two, can't not in an artillery focussed list and a RoW that buffs barrages.

In Raven's Flight the Raven Guard ambush an Iron Warrior armoured formation including Thunderstrike Assault Guns, led by a vanguard of Rhinos and Bikes. So there's canon precedent for combined artillery & bikes.
