Okay, so I'm looking for a good black paint (brush on) to use.

My old supply of Chaos Black and Salamander Black are running low, but frankly I've never been enamored with the slightly satin finish that CB gives, so I'm looking for alternatives.

Anybody got any suggestions? I placed an order at Forge World recently and was going to give their Corax Black a go, but sadly I forgot to add it to the cart and only realised when my order arrived. Has anyone got any experience using it?

I usually just paint it whatever black I have at hand and then use a matte varnish or a matte wash.

If you're talking about the old hex shaped pots with the flip top lid for Chaos Black then that's still being produced by Coat D'arms.

Vallejo Model Color Flat Black.

Bar none, best black paint I've used.

Yep, that's what I was talking about. I'm aware that Coat D'arms do the old citadel colours (BTW, I love their Russian Brown), but as I mentioned in the OP I'm looking for alternatives, preferably with glowing reviews.....

Great, I'll give it a go!

My only previous experience with Vallejo is with their primers (terrible) and their textured paint (ace!).

Scale 75 do the mattest paints on the market. No question. Their black is the one you want. Then it'd be Reaper with Vallejo's model colour line a close 3rd.

Thanks, I had heard about Scale's paints being ultra-matte....I picked up the entire Scale paint set from ebay for a bargain price a while ago, It's still in its cellophane!

I haven't opened it because I didn't know if I was gonna keep it or sell it on, it really was a totally impulsive purchase.

Maybe their black is incentive enough for me to keep it!
