How do you think combining these two elite forces in games would match up? I can see DW being able to fill in some of the gaps that GK's have, and still being ablke to dominate the psychic phase as well...

Anyway this combo can be competitive?

I think.it has some merits to it. However it's still paying extra points for marines that die all the same. With careful manoeuvring and target priorities though, you can eliminate threats and keep things away (same with any army though) to buy time for your specialist ammo to do it's thing. It has capabilities for being a strong alpha strike if built the right way. Using the grey knight special detachment and drop pod deathwatch you can get lots of units where you want them turn one.

Like I said though, they still die like regular marines but with a higher cost. A bit of messing about to find a good list to try would be worth it though, as it's a nice concept.

Bonus points if you add in sisters of battle and one of each inquisitor though

Problem with being competaive is like deathwing all these years... numbers. High point cost with low model count armies die quicker, and any casualty hurts. Fun to play? Absolutely. I stuck with pure deathwing as my favorite list from 3rd until this latest codex (can't play pure dw anymore...), and have always been a fan of the gk too.

My new army is deathwatch, with some gk allies. I was going to ally deathwing, but I can already take a term squad full of assault cannons with deathwatch!! Looks like my deathwing will be painted mostly black now

If I were to do this, use the DW to fill the Gk weakness... AV and 2+saves. Making a kill team that can help deal with armor can be useful. The n put it in a drop pod for the T1 strike to go with the GK NSF turn one shunt and deep strike would be useful. Early threat saturation .

I don't think that DW is a competitive army. Any majour tournament list is list tailored to murder MEQ's and they are just fielding 2-3x as expensive MEQ's with no real form of protection.

I think they'd be too small in numbers and too comparatively squishy, being no more survivable than tactical Marines.
