Anyone play the game how is it. And has anyone played or tried dropfleet?

It's a good game, you'll want to pickup the building packs as it's the fastest way to get terrain, and that terrain is needed. I would highly recommend coming up with some scatter terrain beyond that, otherwise the game can get a bit centric on hiding behind those buildings.

It has many similarities to other games, of course, the main differences are that weapons have two range values, one while countered and one while uncountered. Although most things you shoot at will have countermeasures, so the system isn't used as interestingly as it is in Dropfleet.

Now's a good time to try the game since the second expansion book just released along with a lot of interesting variants on units, which is what the game needed.

It is great. You should definitely try it out!

Dropfleet has not been released yet, so apart from a few special events people have not played it yet, but it looks like it is going to be awesome. I am very excited for it. I am not sure on the exact dates, but the game will probably hit the stores in a few months.

I'm just getting into it now but haven't played yet. Looking forward to dropfleet being released as well, this september isnt' it?

My idea at present is to drop 40k and focus on dropzone commander for my sci-fi wargaming fix. 10mm is just a much better scale to game on than 40k's supersize 28mm, that is the main head turner for me. I am leaning towards the resistance for my first army, my son is leaning towards the PHR.

Well got me a basic starter game, been reading the book for awhile but haven't touched the minis yet since been busy working on another project.

Thinks Palladium books screwed the pooch on the Robotech project.

DZC is my main game at this point, and I'm currently waiting on the Kickstarter delivery for Dropfleet.

The pros:
1. Incredible model designs
2. Each faction plays very differently and yet are well balanced.
3. A wide variety of missions and objectives
4. The alternating activations promote thinking several steps ahead.

The cons:
1. Depending on where you are, models may be hard to get ahold of (distributors tend to under stock them in the U.S.).
2. The playerbase, partially because of 1, is really spread out. In my area there are only a couple of players but I'm working on growing the base.
3. There are a few issues in the rulebooks where you really wish they'd hire an editor to go over the books before sending to the printer.
4. There are some units (and unit types) that are considered subpar and therefore don't see high level play (typically "fast movers" like fighters and bombers).

I like the detail in the book, also if you have seen the movie Independence Day: Resurgence you might see some similarities too the game even.

and yes fighters and bombers feel like they are one shot deals and that is it.

The aircraft are improved a little by the Forward Air Controller rule for infantry, making them come in more reliably, but it's a weird, easily missed rule.

I dont own any Fast movers, I imagine they are a game changer for AA units.

AS a PHR player, I'd like to inject a word of warning. I bought them based on looks and also being a Mech head. They are supposed to be a small elite army that does whatever the particular focus is well. Small army yes, focused yes, but not very elite in practice. If you focus on building demo (for example) you will be very good at it. Unfortunately, your army will not be able to anything else. The other (original) armies are more flexible, so Scourge Hunters can kill armor, but also can building demo pretty well if they must. Same for the UCM and Shaltari, if not necessarily so well. Also, this game is about manuever, so the slow speed of PHR transports really hurts, especially in objective grabbing missions.

Originally, I had two PHR starters, but I sold one after playing for a bit. It turns out that the new PHR units in Reconquest Phase 1 and 2 are so superior, that other than the mandatory purchases (Immortals mainly) I don't bring the older units. If you read tournament reports, this is a typical trend among most PHR players. So just get one starter and the expansion rulebooks, then start building from there

I'd disagree that all the original units are bad for PHR, they just need a different approach.

After a few tournaments, I've moved to three Phobos and two Helios, as opposed to one Phobos and 4 Helios. The extra range and E is worth it.

Ares are alright ( I think a blob of type 1 mechs in a Njord is a thing!) the Menchit though is outclassed by the new version.

I still like Janus, but you need them for a reason like cheap dropships hunters.

Type 2's are tough but effective. The low move really hurts, but paired with an Erebos they work (or a solo enyo to open up another support slot whilst adding building demo is ok)

Sirens are still awesome too!

I see Shaltari getting hurt by buying two starters. Most players dont end up using the Kukri and Tomahawks when they go up the 1,000 points.

Outer Space, Apparently

I have played a starter game and am painting a starter set. I very much enjoyed it, primarily because "kill everything your opponent has" is both not easy nor a wise decision a lot of the time in the face of finding objectives that will actually net you victory points. Very refreshing style of play.

I like the starters for campaign and fluff game. These units represent the bulk of the armies. Imagine fighting 12 Rapiers and 12 Sabres vs 12 Reapers and 12 Hunters
