The time has finally come. The Mrs. has given me permission to place my first order from forge world. I am looking to take advantage of the free shipping offer (as it ends on my birthday).
My list so far of what I am thinking is Sicaran (beautiful model ) and maybe some MKIII marines. I don't play HH yet but I am thinking of painting them up as pre-heresy Space Wolves.
Now the reason I come to you folks is I was wondering if anyone has suggestions for other nice kits? (No Titans, no matter how cool they are.) I know most will say just buy what you want to paint...but I can't afford all of those.
Thanks in advance. Automatically Appended Next Post: I am thinking some MKIII Breachers. Does forgeworld supply bases? Didn't see it in the description, and if they do, are they 25s or 32s?

If you want to do Space Wolves, try to wait just a bit longer. The next HH book will be all about them and the Thousand Sons. That book, and the models released after it, may affect your choices.

Agreed. I'm going to be making my first order to FW as well and it's mainly the DKOK that I'm getting.

I won't be getting into the HH too soon though. I am just getting some models to paint up and I doubt they will release those before this shipping deal ends.

If your looking at SW's, get some Rhino or Land Raider upgrade doors. They'll add some nice flavor to the army.

I just ordered some more breachers & they came with 25mm bases. Luckily I'm using the new GW bases anyway so makes no odds to me. Was strange though as their new legion tactical squads come with 32mm.

Rumours suggesting that the next HH boxed game from GW will come with plastic Mk 3 so maybe hold off as they'll be a hell of a lot cheaper.

I did see that. Which made me pause, but I can't imagine they'd give us plastic breachers. Then again, I never thought I'd see a full cataphractii squad either haha

Didn't see the edit sorry, Breachers would be a great choice they're probably my favourite models FW make just something amazing looking about them. A new SW transfer sheet has just gone up for sale today that may interest you its got some really cool designs on there.

I did see those transfers. They are beautiful but I've never used transfers before so I would be afraid to ruin them. Might get the SW icon packs. Do you think the large one fit on a breacher shield?

Honestly, the special 125 shipping deal they have isn't really all that great. They always have the free express shipping at 250, anyway.

Welp I did it. 5 Breachers, a Sicaran, 10 MKIII Space Wolves shoulder pads and a set of SW icons. Thanks everyone for your input and suggestions. Might get the courage to post pictures or start a p&m blog when I start these.
Side note, you think if I e-mail FW with my order number and ask to get 32mm bases for my breachers they would do it? I know that. But it is a good deal for someone such as myself that can't afford the 250 mark in one go, or has never ordered from them before.

Not sure if you'll count it as a titan, but I love working on the Imperial Knights.
There's just so much space to work on, and so many open surfaces, it's a canvas waiting to be played with on so many levels. That, and there's so many weapon options you can use, it's got so much at your fingertips.
If you're going to bounce between 40K and 30K, the most flexible would be the Knight Megaera, as its FW weapons can be used in both games. Automatically Appended Next Post: Not sure if you'll count it as a titan, but I love working on the Imperial Knights.

So I received my order. I ordered the Space Wolves Icon set, and I had a question. They are surrounded by flash. Is that normal for these types of items? I was also surprised by how small they actually are lol. But they should work nicely on my Breacher shields

Yep...Forge World is pretty notorious for hunks of resin/flash. I've never been impressed with the stuff (the detail is nice, the quality for the price you pay...not so much).

The big key with Forgeworld's problems with things like flash, is because they're still using the resin techniques that you find in small backwater garage producers, which is known as Room-Temperature-Vulcanization. It's poured into the mold as normal, which is commonly a silicone mold, if I am not mistaken, though they Might have gone up to actual metal molds. The problem is, there's little they can do to combat things like bubbles and flash. I think they refined the mold casting, as there have been Less cases of Mold Slippage (where you get a ridge on either side because the mold plates actually misaligned).
This is where some of the 3rd party companies, like Anvil, blow Forgeworld out of the water for quality, because they've gone up to the real industry standard, which is pressure casting. The molds are fixed in place very firmly, and the resin is injected under pressure, which virtually eliminates bubbles and flash.
But. they do still produce good stuff, even if they haven't bothered to actually upgrade their production lines.

Another question, is it normal to have pieces broken off the sprue(can't remember the actual name)? 3 of the heads and 2 of the arms of my breachers were off and loose. Also one of the sponson mounts and one of the ammo barrels for the HB sponsons were broke. Is it worth e-mailing over? Or should i just try to fix with glue?

They would probably replace them for you...but sadly it does sound like normal Forge World supplied items.

I got a Sicaran a few months back. I broke one of the sponson turret pieces. I emailed them and told them the full story about how it was my fault and asked if they would sell me just that piece. They told me they would replace it for me at no cost this one time.
Moral of the story is email them and give them a chance to make things right.

This is normal. As long as nothing was lost or damaged in breaking off the sprue it doesn't matter.
Also one of the sponson mounts and one of the ammo barrels for the HB sponsons were broke. Is it worth e-mailing over? Or should i just try to fix with glue?
That depends entirely on how much work it would be to fix vs. how long you'd have to wait for a replacement. FW is good about sending replacement parts if you have casting flaws or parts broken in shipping, but is it really worth calling them and waiting a few weeks to get a replacement part if you can spend a minute or two and glue it back together? Some breaks are easy to fix, some are really thin or structural parts that can't really be fixed properly if they break. You have to figure out what kind yours is.
