So in our friend group there are several tau players and several players who are extremely anti tau.
This has led to some dispute over a few rules in the tau codex. I was hoping someone could help me clarify.

The first is in regards to the riptides nova charge. Specifically when it fails. We all agree that when it fails you take the wound, and only feel no pain can negate that wound.
The problem is that the anti tau players think that once the riptide takes the wound, it cant do anything for the rest of that turn. Personally i dont think this is accurate.

Secondly, if the riptide fires its ion accelerator, does the ordnance rule mean that the riptide cant fire any more weapons that phase?

Thirdly and maybe the most disputed one, Can the commander in the hunter cadre or retaliation cadre be replaced with farsight or shadowsun? Are CAD's really the only way to field those two?

I hope you can help! Thanks!

Not the right thread for this bud,

However for the first point there is nothing stated anywhere that the riptide cannot do any other actions after failing nova.

Careful I have CDO it’s like OCD but in alphabetical order LIKE IT SHOULD BE!!!!!!

Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.

Abbout the third question:

no, you can't replace a generic commander.
Commander Farsight can be taken in the command formation for the dawn blade detachment
Commander Shadowsun can be taken in the command formation for the hunter contingent.

or both in an additional CAD.

1) as Keswick said, nothing prevents the riptide from an action after failed nova, they just don't get the nova profile the were trying for.

2) if it fires the nova version of the ion (only part with ordance) then the secondary guns are snap shots, per resent tau faq

3) the named commanders can only go in the hq "formation" part of the respective detachment as Chaphazer said.

May I ask why some of your friends are anti-tau and what armies they play?

Except that's not what the FAQ states at all. It says Heavy Vehicles have to snap shot after firing Ordnance weapons and MC's cannot fire any other weapons after firing an Ordnance weapon.

Sorry misremebered that. I don't use ordance variation at all because I always seem to gets hot that roll.

the nova blast isn't very good, when the secondary mode is enough for the juicy AP2

Thanks for all the replies everyone!
Sorry for posting in the wrong thread! (newbie alert right here)
But thanks for all the responses to the questions, i think that clears everything up!

Skullzz my friends all consider tau to be overpowered, they think we have broken rules and what not. I play mainly against marines, that being, grey knights, chaos, space wolves and ultramarines.

Grey Knights slaughter Tau with shunting Incinerators and Psilencers. It's Tau that should be complaining.

My lord, the amount of dice our grey knights player picks up in his psychic phase...

But for some reason he struggles to beat tau in our meta!

The sm guys need to look at their rules. They have everything we do ( except markers).

Anyway that is off topic. No problem with answering questions. Thought I should start posting instead of being a lurker (hi I'm skullzz a dakkadakka lurker of 1year).

The way to beat Marines of any flavor is mass fire. Drown them in dice. They will fail their saves, and they will die quickly. Stay at range, avoid melee unless its a Stormsurge or a melee Commander with a Crisis-star. You never even have to worry about AP, just force those saves.

Honestly; that is the way to win with any army. The more dice you can drop per phase the better, the only quality weapons that you need are for anti-vehicle; but you should still take as many of those as you can.

I had a small SW force years back, made the mistake of giving a random Grey Hunter a power fist... Yeah, 1 attack with that quality(and "hidden" at the time, as in could be the last guy standing in every game) weapon was beyond useless. My model got upgraded to a wolfguard after 2 or 3 games, IIRC the last straw was him getting killed by an eldar fire dragon in melee, after 4 straight phases of the single swing missing(it was a little funny).

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.
