These all seem to fill very similar roles, whats the differences? Why should I pick one over the other 2?

I'm running Sons of Horus and thinking of using one of them as a flexible outflanking threat maybe with combi weapons.

Advise would be appreciated! Thanks! :-)

Sniper veterans can yield some really funny combos. I just fought a Salamanders player who outflanked veteran squads in rhinos. They shot out the top hatches with rending S6 heavy flamers. Brutal.

The concept of 'sniper heavy flamers' still feels kind of odd, though.

Marksmen vets with heavy flamers and combie flamers are just bad ass. Used by Alpha Legion with counter attack makes them hilariously awesome.

I've found Sniper Vets to be very useful, especially against Mechanicum and their MC's.

Against mechanicum its the weapons you use that matter with sniper vets, wounding on 4+ and then having to re roll all the successes hurts. Imperial Fist can do it well since they have bs5 with bolter weapons.

As a Luna Wolves player I will say that Reavers are fantastic all around flankers depending on how you kit them out. You will only ever have three melta guns at max same as plasma rifles or flamers so they are not an awesome dedicated tank hunting unit. That said when you give them a few special weapons and have BS 5 when close with the Death Dealer rule it can do some serious damage. You can also give them jump packs as well as power weapons for maximum CC damage.

They are one of our unique units, I say use them.

30K is more about the fluff then how good the actual army is on the table. Reavers are one of the special units that SoH can take, so why not take them?

If you want to win, then just take a Legion Tactical Support Squad and give them all meltaguns inside a dedicated transport of your choice.

Each of the above units come from a different section of the FO- Vets are Elites, Seekers are FA, and Reavers can fall into several different areas depending on Special Characters or Rites of War being used. You might need more FA then Elites for a certain Rite of War, so Seekers would be the way to go, or you might need more of A then B, etc. etc. That's why you see a lot of overlapping abilities in a lot of Legion entries. It enables you to take a certain Rite of War or special character and still be able to run a unit that fulfills a certain role in your army.

When building your army, it's like you have to pick a Rite of War first, then start selecting units to satisfy the Rite of War. It's a bit like 40K in that regards. You pick a formation, then select the units to fulfill the formation. The formation will explicitly spell out what you can and can't take, while a Rite of War just has limits, not exclusions.
