I have been facing quite a few psyker deathstars with my war convocation of both the marine and chaos marine variety. The chaos marine version with their "steal a gun" and spawn are not nearly as nasty as the marine variety with white scars/raven wing and space wolves with a conclave.
The question is, what do I do or can do as the mechanicum vs these death stars. Knights seem to just get crunched during one round of combat (so no stomps). Shooting does little to nothing even with cognis weapons (re-rollable 2+ and FNP). The order of operation is they seem to just move up the field unscathed and then multi charge away everything. This gets doubly painful if they have first turn to get off their invisibility before I can do anything.
I have thought about bringing a culexus assassin and just having him sit with my line.
What are some other ideas.

If you're playing ITC you have to take a culexus in a pod or rhino, from what I hear this is standard gak.
If you're not playing ITC good luck.

The anti-Deathstar strat, that has been around since Deathstars have been a thing, is to ignore and avoid them while you focus down the remaining army. Works for every army, and works like a charm every time. The same strat can also be used versus flyers when you lack good AA.

Grabbing cullexus or vindicar assassins are your best options, with vindicar he has a 50% chance to kill one psyker of your choice per turn (given they have 1 wound each) and they will have no saves to save them. The cullexis is a literal anti-psyker bomb but getting him close enough to be useful is difficult without him dying.

Lol, what Marine Psyker has one wound?
Considering BB in pods won't be a thing once the FAQ drops officially, you might be better off looking elsewhere than allying in a Culexus and a marine force.

Depends entirely on how good the invul save on the Psyker is really. Turbo pen rounds are actually not bad for taking out the multi wound psykers. I've had a few games where my Vindicare has neutered Deathstar lists purely from that shell, though the Hellfire rounds are far more reliable when picking off 1W models, ie Grav Cannon SM's.

Great trick is a culexus in a bunker with escape hatch. With the new FAQ draft stating they can't go in pods the escape hatch is the next best thing. You can then use the bunker to protect a unit of destroyers as well. An ammo dump on the bunker also allows you to reroll ones which comes in handy with several units. Costs a bit of points but you can't put a price on shutting down an invisible, enduranced and invul save death star.

Culexus assassin, hilarity will insue once he is on the field. He has a null shell that makes it so anything within 12 inches of him can't be targeted by a Psyker and with the way rules are written he actually shoots in the payker phase and shots are based off the warp charges generated.
He can just out right murderize Psykers

To many unpainted models to count. |
