Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

I think we can all agree that the Deathwatch models look great, even I as a heretic can admit that. But how do I get Deathwatch in my chaos army?

I have two major questions:

Is there any fluff of renegade Deathwatch, even just a moment of wavering faith?

and,

How does a Deathwatch detachment play, how would I set them up to support a Daemons list for example?
I would try to find this out myself but there have been no battle reports on a Deathwatch list and so far only initial test lists of Deathwatch.

I am sorry for my ignorance, but I wouldn't normally give a second thought to new loyalist toys, I hardly know anything about vanilla marines let alone their varients.

Well, I'm only going to respond to the point you made on wavering faith - these are all Marines drawn from different Chapters. Even if you can get one of the above average Marines to fall to your side, getting the rest of his squad to join him and not just execute their fallen brother is harder. They're individuals, joined by oaths to the Ordo Xenos itself. Wavering faith will not break them.

They/them

All marines can fall to chaos. Acting all fancy in kill teams and all doesn't protect you from that at all.
The corruption should start at the top or sweep in in a huge wave hitting them all at the same time but sure they can fall.

I would expect if such a freak event did occur, they would turn into a squad of Chosen - or at least be the equivalent of them.

Thousand Sons: 3850pts / Space Marines Deathwatch 5000pts / Dark Eldar Webway Corsairs 2000pts / Scrapheap Challenged Orks 1500pts / Black Death 1500pts

Saga: (Vikings, Normans, Anglo Danes, Irish, Scots, Late Romans, Huns and Anglo Saxons), Lion Rampant, Ronin: (Bushi x2, Sohei), Frostgrave: (Enchanter, Thaumaturge, Illusionist)

"looking for an excuse to" sums it all up for me.

They're your figures: do what you want.

Because Deathwatch is anti-Xeno, there doesn't seem to be any fluff AGAINST it, and I suppose you could argue that a Deathwatch unit gets sucked into the warp and corrupted while on crusade. My own response, however, would be: "Yeah, right. Pull the other one."

I need the excuse because, if I'm honest, I don't have the money to buy 40k models just to paint and display.

So please, convince me that I need these models in my chaos army. (please)

If you want them to be fluffy fast, add Cypher to your army and you are done ; )
Also they are just mere mortals, expecting nameless marines them to resist any better than hours and many of his followers did might be unreasonable.

Notice that Librrians can still summon daemons so it isn't that unusual for them to use daemons as tools as some might expect. Who are we to tell that those daemons aren;t all summoned before battle ?
You can always join us at team Xanthism if you want to remain loyal and fluffy.
Just make sure that you keep then 6" away from your daemons, and don't invite puritans to your dinner parties.

That suggestion to add Cypher is bloomin' excellent! Love it Zoggy

The best way to justify it, I think, would be for some renegade warlord or pirate king to form an organization both mocking the Deathwatch and performing the same function. Aliens can be enemies of Chaos, too - and hey, what aspiring champion of the Dark Gods wouldn't want someone on hand that's really good at killing Harlequins?

Perhaps there's a watch station equivalent somewhere in the Eye of Terror or the Maelstrom, where mad hereteks and renegade Apothecaries take only the finest candidates from the Iron Warriors, Emperor's Children, Night Lords, Red Corsairs, and so on and so forth...

Yeah its simple. No need to explain it any further. The only thing you need is a cool model and the datasheet.

Fluff-wise they were just doing their thing and purging the xenos filth when they came across a family of xenos filth huddled together, a mother and her three infants...their faith wavered and broke as they asked 'Are we really fighting for the good guys?'.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

And then a Deathwatch Minataur charges in, kills the mother and eats the kids. Right? That would push most loyalists over the edge.

In the case of the Blood Angels and Space Wolves, it would only push them over the edge if he doesn't offer to share.

If you take a librarian then you could do the classic voices in his head gave him the power to win the day but lost his soul. Perhaps a kill team overwhelmed and desperate to stop a Xenos enemy accepted help from the Gods without realizing what they were really getting into. The Inquisitor monitoring the operation declares them heretics but they feel they simple served in the only way they could. The form an uneasy alliance with other traitors since they have no other place to go.

You could use a few chaosy bits and paint their shoulder pads in different traitor legion colour schemes, making them look close enought to death watch to make sense for using their rules and close enough to chaos to not look out of place.
