I'm putting together a Dark Angel force, and I love the idea of the Ironwing (although oddly enough I think the Armoured Breakthrough Rite is a better fit that the Ironwing, but that's a different story!)

As part of it I'd love to have a big 'showpiece' superheavy like the Fellblade (specifically a Fellblade, I don't like the Falchion and I'm gonna wait and see if there's a DA specific Glaive model when they get brought fully into the Heresy).

However, I just can't seem to get my head around the fact that for the points I could have say... 2 vindicators and 2 or 3 kitted out predators which gives me equivalent/arguably better shooting. Admittedly on a less survivable platform but they would be much less of a priority target than one big superheavy..

So is the Fellblade worth it? Or can the job be done better with a squardron of regular tanks?

Thanks!

Yep its worth it, sure you can get more vehicles for the same cost, but they as you said, are not as survivable, it can and does delete whole squads a turn and if equipped with quad Las can also split fire and take out tanks, the glaive variant is also superb at taking out other super heavies with d3+1 haywire hits, the beam and deflagrate means you can kill 7 guys in a unit, then 7 more at str8 ap1, and the icing on the cake is shock pulse, forcing enemies to snap shot (think I remeber that correctly), both are good tanks.

As to the vortex cannon variant, I started a post about that myself, as I plan on making it.

Why is this even a question? It's a Fellblade, a super heavy tank for Legion. Do you get to use a Fellblade in 40K? No. Does two Vindicators or 2-3 Predators look as cool as a Fellblade? No. Are they as good as a Fellblade? No. The Fellblade represented the highest point of Legion tank power on the battlefield before the Heresy. No other vehicle except maybe the Thunderhawk or Mastodon with so much firepower was ever given to the Space Marines after the Legions were broken and the Codex Astartes ratified by the Council of the Imperium.

You said it yourself- you want a show piece for your army and nothing says that better then a Fellblade, especially for Ironwing. 30K is all about fluff and the rule of cool. The Fellblade epitomizes both of those philosophies.

Actually, yes.

And you have to go through a lot of hoops to do it, along with your opponent's permission, and the vehicle is a shadow of itself in 40K. So many literal people. I guess I should have said:

Do you get to use a Fellblade in 40K? No*.

*Fine print: Yes, according to a few sources (Forge World) that may or may not be acceptable to your opponent. As always, it's up to them anyways.

Doesn't it have the exact same rules? At least it does in Imperial Armour 2, not sure if IA13 changed it. Potentially its even better in 40k, since Iron Hands Chapter Tactics would apply to it.

It has different upgrade options in IA13, mostly lifted from C:CSM, but the basic stats and wargear are the same.

Plus there's the Legacies Of Ruin. For an admittedly chunky 90pts I can give one Veteran Of The Scouring, for example, which grants IWND and PE:Space Marines.

Considering the age of these machines, I am surprised that not more of them are Veterans of the Scouring!

Of course, Chaos likely maintains the capacity to construct more, but most are probably older ones.
