This is the old resin sculpt of Eldrad Ulthran I painted some time ago - probably in the area of 2 years back. I based his cloak on a picture the Hubble took of Messier 74 (the Phantom Galaxy).
Constructive criticism and comments welcome.
Also, I apologize if the pics look a bit strange. I do not have a real light box yet and am still playing with the settings on the camera.
Derp, let's try the right thread this time.

Let's stick more photos in here.
Here is my 2015 Armies on Parade submission. There were only 3 other people that entered, so I would like to know what Dakka's thoughts on it are.
As a warning, yes, they are not great pictures. I only recently started playing with my all-paper faux light-box. And yes, I do not go back and matte spray over gloss varnish. Depending on what the pictures of my WIP Dark Reapers and Fire Dragons look like when I get around to finishing them, I might start using matte. Just for the sake of all of you here on Dakka.

Wow, that's alot of cracking stuff right there - loving that you've gone all-out on the gems, so many folk skip most of them.
Asurman's sword is nicely done too, though Bahroth is a bit to techni-colour for me
I'm sorry you didn't get any response to your initial post, the freehand is very cool (though the staff is a bit bendy due to finecast)

I'm the opposite on some of the gems (the Wraithknight to me suffers from far too much), but the entire army looks very solidly painted. Nice to see the Voidweaver being used as a Vyper w/ platform (I'll be doing the same shortly).

Thank you very much for your comments!
I have only gotten recently into trying to fix resin. I did not google it the first time I tried and just went with a friend's advice - ended up snapping someone's sword in half, I think it's one of those two warlocks honestly. Been a bit hestitant to try ever since.
I will agree now that I go back that Baharroth is the PL I like the least, and I think he is the oldest of them. I was trying to get it to be a kind of shimmery metallic technicolor, but I used a pearlescent white as the base. If a new model ever comes out for him, I will have to see how a dark silver will handle the multiple washes instead. Or maybe just do very subtle edge highlighting.
I've always loved painting gemstones. They kind of became a theme for my wraith when I finished my first one - I thought he looked kind of confetti-ed with gems, loved it, and ran with it.

Looking at it more closely, I can see that the Wraithknight does look rather busy and less cohesive as an overall model. Do you think having more of the gems the same color might fix that? I am a bit attached to painting pretty much all of the blisters on Wraiths as gems but have been experimenting with using fewer colors for more cohesion.
Thank you. The big pseudo-jetbike is a venom, although a voidweaver chasis does sound like it would make a much nicer version of a Vyper for sure. I will have to keep an eye out for it if you post it. It never occurred to me to use a different chasis for vypers, but I never really take them. So the wierd appearance of the model does not necessarily bother me. Out of sight, out of mind, I guess.

Red_Ink, I can't really give you any advice on the gems. I've never been huge on them myself. I suppose fewer colours would make it more cohesive?
Regarding the venom, I just thought it was one of the new Harlequin ones (I don't do modern 40K and I'm out of touch with the models). Only reason I'll be doing one is that at least in 2nd edition (not sure about now) a Vyper could carry a fighting platform on the back in place of the rear gun, thus a psyker or Exarch or somebody could ride on the back and fight normally from the platform.
Since the bog standard Vyper doesn't immediately lend itself to any kind of platform, the Harlequin platform bikes look far more suitable to build one off of.

Ah, ok. I wish a modern Vyper could do that, but alas, they are stuck being nothing more than a flying paper box for one gun. Hornets lend themselves to that role a little bit better. It does sound really fun to replace the Vyper gun with a relatively powerful character and just have it go around smashing into stuff.
If you have not bought the model yet, the Dark Eldar Venom is much closer in size to the Vyper chasis and is less expensive than the Starweaver model. It might make the conversion a little less expensive for you

I picked up whatever comes in the Death Masque box for maybe $23-ish, so we'll see. I'll plan on mounting either a Warlock (they were actually powerful in 2nd) or something wicked like an Exarch (they were also actually good in 2nd edition) with a bunch of shooty stuff and skills.
I was actually thinking about making up a Shining Speares exarch or something to mount on the back. The old codex also includes Harlequins, exodites and pirates - and a Pirate jetbike squad can be lead by a Pirate captain on a Vyper etc. I'll be sure to post up here when I do get around to it.

Please do, that sounds fantastic! I would especially love to see the pirates! It might give me some better ideas for what to do for a Corsair Jetbike Baron.
Anyway, I finally have some new things to add. I got around to doing a test model for the Frozen Stars, and although his pictures in the October Painting Competition are atrocious, I did my best to fix them up for here so there can be a little proof that I am slightly better than absolutely awful at miniature photography. (It's a wonder what post editting, even with crappy software, can do.)
Still having blur problems, but I think I've managed to mitigate it a little bit. Still trying to save money for the photo lightbox set I want to see if a tripod will fix the blur further.
Everybody on here makes me so jealous of their photography skills. I'm really happy I started here instead of trying to post on coolminiornot. I would have been eaten alive by the bad scores...

Definately should have put him on a red background or something. The white is a bit harder to differentiate than I thought it would be.

And, I started a new project amidst all of the things that have been going on: a combined Corsaies/Dark Eldar army. I wanted the models to be able to count as either army just in case our FLGS did more no Forgeworld type tournaments. The following two are color test models that I wanted to finish up before starting on my Skathach (who is also going to be painted in this scheme).
