Looks like I'm finally going to get another game of AoS in this weekend and we may be a bit short on time, so we'll have to build armies quickly.

My friends are bringing lizardmen and dwarfs, and I have lots of Orcs, Ogres, Trolls and Goblins - so I assume I'm going Destruction! This is a fun, non-competitive game, but I do want to make sure I don't totally suck with my army list! They've both played a fair amount, I've only played once before, though I've played a fair bit of Kings of War.

It's likely going to be Field of Blood with three players. Briefly, each player brings an army with up to six units. No unit may be bigger than double the minimum size. Only one figure may have more than 10 wounds. So maybe 1,000-1,200 points, approximately?

The game should therefore be relatively small armies. Because I have a ton of Orcs and Goblins I should be able to field at least one of everything (so don't hold back on your advice!), but I've never played with the points before, don't know warhammer well, and I'm still quite overwhelmed by the choices. The Orcs warscroll is dozens of pages long...!

And so I turn to you, dear dakkites! Can you provide a newbie with advice on some good units to take as either Death or Destruction? And what makes the unit good? Within Destruction, do I have to select all my units from one of the six army types (e.g., grots, ironjaws, orgres, etc)? Any and all advice welcome! (well, aside from advice recommending a new army!)

Also, now that the army lists are free pdfs on the site, is there a good army builder that I can print out as pdf (with all the stats and rules)? I don't have a good mobile device, so an ap isn't a great solution for me.

If I had to guess:

Dwarfs will have 3 artillery pieces and 1 or 2 engineers and then fill the rest with quarrelers/warriors.

Dwarf Artillery is some of the best in game, so I can't blame him.

Seraphon - hmm... at1k -1200 pts I would say at least one Carnosaur and possibly saurus warrior/guard combo.

For you - take what is fast and has good armor. Dwarf artillery will shred what you have and both your opponents have excellent grinder battleline troops.

Trolls may actually be ok, but Seraphon ignore -1 rend and dwarfs have plenty of it.

No madam, 40,000 is the year that this game is set in. Not how much it costs. Though you may have a point. - GW Fulchester

Thanks for the advice. I'm building my list now... And actually can't find the point values for trolls (or Giants, for that matter!)

I have the generals handbook, but for the life of me, can't find the trolls. Anyone know where they are listed?
