Does anyone know a cheap way to amass a unit of 20 Seekers that:
- 1) are cheaper than the actual models. Seriously $30 for five T3 1W models. no thanks
- 2) look more appropriate to the Seeker statline. Sure the actual models look great, but again, they are 1W T3 models. The actual minis look like they should at least have 2W

Any ideas for using GW minis as alternatives, or simple conversion ideas to make regular Daemonettes look like they move 12" and have an extra attack?
So far what I can come up with is:
- a) using Chaos Warhounds with added claws - I already use Warhounds as FleshHounds & (with beaks, feathers & flames) Screamers and use Dire Wolves as Beasts of Nurgle, so this idea fits
- b) somehow make/add snake bodies for Daemonettes
- c) convert Bloodletters to have 1 clawed hand to replace the sword and alter the head by removing the horns and/or elongated head.

In any of the above cases, I would get the smallest Oval bases that GW has recently produced.

Another idea would be to use Lizardmen Saurus with clawed hands

Find a decent cheap plastic human torso, and a quadruped body, (say, reaper bones sophie and their hellcat/hellhounds), cut the head off the quad, legs off the human, pin together, fill mid with greenstuff to taste? Can show pics of a similar thing I did for csm bikers in a few hours when I get home.

The thought had occurred to me to use Reaper minis, but I only like doing that for 1-2 minis, usually characters or 4-5 model special unit. For whole units that consist of 10+ models, I like to stick with GW kits.

I am leaning heavily towards the clawed Saurus. Eihter keep them on the 32mm bases they come with, or custom make 50x25mm oval bases.

Well, less 'using reaper specifically', that was more an example, and something more like this:
Spoiler:

The Reaper just has a decent selection of weird animals for cheap you could use as the lower body. You could probably do the same thing with GW goblin wolves, and the bodies out of the daemonettes set, or something similar.

Not GW but certainly cheaper.

#1 Buy them at a discount, there are webstores in the US that give a 25% discount, resulting in a $21.75/5 or $87 for 20. A
#2 Wait for a 'start collecting Slaanesh' boxed set, there's one for Khorne and Nurgle, I suspect that we'll see at least this year one for Tzeench. They can't leave Slaanesh out, buy it at a 25% discount and sell the rest...

Buying bits will require shipping costs in most cases.

Time=money, making passable conversions for 20 Seekers takes a LOT of time. Use that time to make some money and use that to upgrade your budget.

Alternative models and bits aren't free either!

Well part of my issue isn't just the cost, it's the size of the models. They are T3 with only 1 wound. There is no reason for them to be so big and so complex. The old metal Seekers were way more size appropriate. If money was no issue, I'd still want to convert smaller (or at least leaner) models
Seekers are basically just really faster Daemonettes with 1 extra attack. That's it. No +1T, no +1W. Both BloodCrushers and Plague drones are +1T & +2W compared to their infantry counterparts and the models look appropriate for those bonuses. GW should have made the mounts for Seekers much thinner, or made the statline for seekers 2W each, with a points increase of course.
However, If I were to use the actual GW Seekers, it would just be the mounts without riders and it would be cheaper to bits order them that way.

As for time being valuable, I agree but it's a matter of perspective as to how a person feels about what is a valuable use of their time. I have no plans to actually field Seekers in the near future and I don't get out to the game store as often because spending time with my new family is more important. I do, however, get plenty of time at home and really enjoy modeling. So since I can't game as often, but can model/paint more, intentionally creating projects like this is a valuable use of my time.

So far, I have 2 main contenders for Seeker conversions are:
A) box of 20 Lizardmen Saurus with clamed hands. $38 + bits order the Deamonette claws.
------Pros: only 1 box needed, very size appropriate, already come on 32mm bases so no need to have to order more
------Cons: 32mm bases don't look like Cavalry
B) 2 boxes of 10 Chaos Warhounds: $40 + the cost of small oval bases
------Pros: will match my "hound" theme that used red Warhounds as Flesh hounds, blue Warhound with beaks and feathers as Screamers & green Dire Wolves as Beast of Nurgle
------Cons: will need a fair amount to work to set them apart for the above units, oval bases may look too big.

I am leaning heavily towards option A, however I may opt for making my own bases that take 25mm squares and place half of a 25mm round on each end. Kinda like shorter versions of what the Seekers already come on.

I am also searching for a cheap alternative to Seekers
But I would try to keep the cvalry thing so an infantry only based solution won't really fit

My idea was to take GreenStuff (or something similar) an make a snake body and add 2 horse legs taken from a cheap historical cavalry box and use the Amazon bodies from Wargames Factory or Mantic Succubi as riders.

An easier solution would be to just take the Mantic Succubi and replace the legs with a snake tail or spider legs.
