Name: Iron Angels

Founding: 32nd Millenium

Last Imperial Record: Late 32nd Millenium

Progenitor Chapter: Dark Angels

Founding: 2nd Founding

The Iron Angels

Formed in the 32nd millennium, they were one of the Dark Angels successors lost to history. They opted to keep as much of the traditional heraldry as possible, keeping the Dark Green and Red. The chapter vanished in the late 32nd millennium, just 247 years after its founding, due to staggering losses in the defense of Cadia. They spent the next few millennia replenishing gene-seed, and growing in numbers, until they were at full strength once more. However, they remained relatively inactive, and only being dispatched from their Fortress-Monastery called the Angelicus by the Dark Angels. Similarly to the Dark Angels, they do not have a home planet, wandering around in a massive meteorite equipped with Warp Drives. They adhere roughly to the Codex Astartes, maintaining around 1000 Battle-Brothers. However, their Tactical, Assault, and Devastator Squads are not numbered, as they keep an unprecedented amount of flexibility. Marines may be moved from one Squad to another, as losses and tactica permit. Therefore, they wear the number of their Company on their shoulder, in the stead of their Squad Number. This creates a fair amount of confusion in the eyes of the other Space Marines. In the records of some Chapters, the 5th tactical squad numbers almost 100 Marines, and the 3rd Devastator Squad numbers almost 20, etc., etc. As previously implied, the Iron Angels are very close to their Primogenitor Chapter, and, with their incredibly similar color scheme, are often mistaken for Dark Angels. This serves the Dark Angels well, as in some occasions, the Dark Angels swear to protect a planet, yet are drawn away by some unforeseen event. However, between the Dark Angels and the Iron Angels, there is one key difference. The First Company’s Terminators are not Bone-White. However, the Iron Angels have evolved into a powerful Chapter, able to hold its own against any force.

Key Figures:

Chapter Master Crassius

Lord of Angelicus, Master of Repentance, Destroyer of Khrate, Keeper of Heaven, Keeper of Damnation, Lord of the Iron Angels and Purger of the Celestial Saints. Crassius was one of the original 1000 Marines that formed the Iron Angels. He was one of the 271 survivors of the 1st Black Crusade. He is the 14th Chapter Master of the Iron Angels. He is the death of his enemies and the salvation of the Iron Angels. He is the Master of the Ghoul Stars, the Wanderer of the Shadows, and the Killers of the Hated. He wields the unearthly black blade Christened “Heaven”, and the keeper of the Plasma Combi-Weapon “Damnation”. He resides in the Fortress-Monastery Angelicus where he reflects, forever, until he is called upon by the Watchers in the Dark to war. He is the embodiment of the Iron Angels’ flexibility, able to bring almost any weapon to war.

Lord Celestant Librarian Ghorastus

Keeper of Magic, Bender of Reality, Seer of the Vale, and the Lord in the Shadows. He is the master of the Iron Angels Celestant Librarians. Powerful and control all in one; power to destroy worlds, control to limit the darkness within every Librarian. He earned his title for using the Immaterium to cleanse an alien planet of life, leaving the planet sterile, yet fertile. He wields the ancient Force Sword “Banemaster”, and watches over the Librarium on Angelicus.

Interrogator Chaplain Creatus

Keeper of Secrets, Bearer of Burdens, Wielder of the Holy Rozarius, Lord of the Keep, and Extractor of Secrets. The chief of the Iron Angels Interrogator Chaplains, Creatus is young for his position. Ascending to the title in M41996, he was appointed after several outstanding acts. He extracted a confession out of Inceas, who was the second Fallen captured by the Iron Angels, and was unbroken since M 32461. He pieced together the information obtained, and from it 5 Fallen were captured. Second, he led the assault against the Angel’s Bastion, a former Dark Angels outpost turned Black Market and Chaos Space Marine Fort. He personally challenged the Fallen Drasisai, and then captured and forced him to repent. To date, he has been involved in the capture of 9 Fallen, and has forced 6 to repent. Of all Interrogator Chaplains, he is one of the most esteemed, being almost as respected as Asmodai, or even Saffon.

Shadowhand Master Dureas

Lord of the Tower, Master of Blade, Wall of Morachis, Banisher of Abaddon, Master of the Knights, Keeper of the Shadow Blade, and Lord of the Spires. The Master of the 1st Company, this ancient Space Marine is an Angel of Death on the battlefield, and a serene Master of the Knights when not. Dureas is known for many feats, particularly those during the 9th Black Crusade. He met Abaddon in single combat, and though was defeated and grievously wounded, he used his Storm Bolter to fire at the exposed Cataphractii vents on the back of Abaddon’s massive from, and blew the Black Lord to the ground. He is the Keeper of the Shadow Blade, the twin to the Heavenfall Blade of the Dark Angels. In spite of all the men who say the Heavenfall Blade is one of a kind, the Shadow Blade is its twin in all but name. Majestic and destructive in battle, the Shadow Blade is graceful and deadly.

Ironwing Master Farisimun

Lord of the Ironwing, Master of Bikes, Opener of Ceremonies, Destroyer of Crytus, Master of Fyrebike, Rider of Wind. Ironwing Master Farisimun is the lord of Revelries. He presides over every feast, watches over every ceremony, and looms over every persecution. He is charming and charismatic, and his laughter can be heard booming over the halls of the Angelicus. In battle, however, he is silent, his orders heard only as a whisper. He rides his Bike, his cloak streaming behind him, his enemies falling left and right. His greatest enemy was a Fallen known as Crytus. He was the former Captain of the 28th Bike Company, and his polar opposite. Loud and gregarious in battle, he was a constant thorn in the side to all the Unforgiven. He was the most insufferable to the Ravenwing, Ironwing, and the rest of the bike Companies that felt he was an insult to their name. Farisimun fought against him, on the moons of Pandorax. He strafed the side of the enemy flank with his Command Squad, and, in the process, damaged Crytus’s ancient bike Swyftspeed. Crytus attempted to hunt down Farisimun, yet his bike hurled him off, back wheel jammed. Crytus managed to land on his feet, yet Farisimun was already on top of him. He was mighty, and unmounted Farisimun, yet Farisimun attacked him with a flurry of blows. Outmatched, he was cloven in half with a sweep of Farisimun’s Power Pike, and, just like that, Crytus was no more.

Company Master Errochius

Master of the 3rd Company, veteran of a thousand wars, survivor of Hive Fleets Behemoth, Kraken, and Leviathan, Keeper of Malice, Sword of the Lion, Prize of Angelicus. Master of combat against Tyranids, who, with 13 Battle-Brothers, held Fort Tobias for 213 days against the Tyranids. He is also known for defeating the Fallen known as the Chainbreaker in single combat. His confession lead to the capture of at least 2 other Fallen. He lead the attempt at the destruction of the Chaos Champion known only as “Cast”, and is currently the oldest of the Company Masters. He is known to be unstoppable in battle, able to engage with a mass of Hormagaunts and Termagants, and emerge unscathed out the other side.

Company Master Formastus

Armour of Hatred, Breaker of Yintsugh, Wielder of Weirblade, Master of the 4th Company, and Witness of Repentance. Formastus is an ancient Space Marine. Old enough to remember the old Iron Angels, Formastus is a fearsome warrior. His relic Power Sword Weirblade is a Bone-White color, blasting currents of unnatural energy through its foes. He is the Witness of Repentance, the one who will record each of the Fallen’s confessions, and stores them in the Book of Midnight. He is known for breaking Yintsugh, the 5th Fallen captured by the Iron Angels, and former Company Master of the 78th Dark Angels Company.

Company Master Psaben

Killer of Fraghet, Wielder of Bloodsong, Champion of Angelicus, Master of the 5th Company, and Overseer of Machines. Company Master Psaben is a special case in all Space Marines, or, should I say, the 5th Company Master of the Iron Angels is an odd title in other Space Marine’s eyes. The 5th Company Master is the Overseer of Machines; the Watcher of the Vehicle Bank. The Master must ensure that the Technology is in good condition, that the maintenance is carried out, and that the Chapter Servitors are programmed correctly. Therefore, the 5th Company Master must always have at least the basic understanding of technology. Company Master Psaben is noted, also, for wielding Bloodsong and vanquishing Fraghet. Bloodsong is a Power Sword the Iron Angels forged from the remains of the materials that had once been Caliban. The special Irons and Minerals that had once been Caliban’s core had made Bloodsong a Sword with a temper like no other. Some among the Iron Angels even claim that the blade could slice through pure Ceramite like butter. Fraghet was a Greater Daemon of Slaanesh that had somehow lodged itself in the engines of the Angelicus. He led the force to cleanse the engine, and personally purged the Daemon using Bloodsong, by leaping above a sweep of its Maul, and driving Bloodsong deep into his skull.

Company Master Xedreon

First of the Reserve, Activator of Angelicus, Avenger of Mysus, Purger of the Draigo Spire, Master of the 6th Company, and Keeper of Scrolls. Company Master Xedreon has performed many great deeds that earn him the many titles he bears. He avenged Company Master Mysus when a Tau Cadre XV-25 Stealth Champion destroyed him. He proceeded to use his Power Axe to utterly obliterate the Champion, leaving him in pieces on the ground. He lead a strike force to cleansed the Draigo Spire, a Daemonic Spike that lay growing on a backwater Imperial world. He keeps all of the Dataslates and Scrolls in the Iron Angels’ possession, carefully storing them in the Reclusiam on the Angelicus.

Company Master Torsious

Company Master Torsious, Master of the 7th Company, Destroyer of Khoras, Vanquisher of Txeen, Death of Vard, Pride of Crassius. Company Master Torsious is quite the Iron Angel. Besting two Khornate Daemon Princes at different times is no mean feat, and besting two Khornate Daemon Princes together is a nigh impossible task, yet that’s exactly what Torsious did. Using the Power Sword Headbringer, he wedged himself in a cliff. When the Daemon Princes spotted him, he used his Plasma Pistol to destroy an overhang, plunging one Daemon under. He then used his power armor to leap onto the other Daemon’s back. The Daemon, enraged, took flight, yet one Plasma Bolt brought a wing down. The Prince plunged downwards, and crashed, but the Prince wasn’t done yet. The other Daemon was still digging himself out when Torsious detonated a Melta Bomb over the collapsed overhang. The bomb vaporized the Daemon. The other charged, yet Torsious leapt under, then came around and blasted the Daemon to bits from behind.

Company Master Ghurdes

Nameless Horror, Master of the 8th Company, and Secret Striker. Company Master Ghurdes is a mystery to all. All is unknown, but name, titles, and a suit of Armour. His suit of Armour is often seen moving around the Angelicus, yet if there is a body inside, he does not respond to any word. In fact, even the 8th Company is unsure of Ghurdes’ existence. They go to battle without a Master, and the Commander of their Company is Ezahiriel, the Champion of the 8th.

Company Master Frehan

Keeper of Thunder, Master of Manipulation, Wielder of Mythus, Wall of Morachis, Master of the 9th Company and Gazemaster. Company Master Frehan is the diplomatic master of the Iron Angels. He can manipulate and negotiate until all terms twist to the advantage of the Iron Angels. In battle he wields Mythus, a Power Staff that warps reality, leaving his foes cluttered messes and distorted lumps of flesh. He also keeps a priceless ancient suit of Thunder Warrior armor in his private quarters.

Company Master Druise

Taker of Craster’s Keep, Master of Keys, Claimer of Phostege, Master of the 10th Company, and Young Master. Druise is the youngest of the Company Masters, being inducted into the Iron Angels at M 41784. He rose to prominence when he single handedly beat back an entire squad of Chaos Space Marines, and brought himself into the gaze of the Inner Circle. He then continued to take Crastor Keep, alone, except for Battle-Brother Basean. They, together, wiped out the stronghold’s Garrison, then proceeded to challenge the five Chaos Chosen that controlled the Keep. They killed all except one, and Battle-Brother Basean fell during the conflict. However, then Company Master Garbeiye Krysenth stormed up, and witnessed Druise evade the Chosen’s desperate attacks, then dive under and cleaved him in half with a powerful sweep of his Chainsword. That landed him into the Ironwing, and then into the Deathhand. Finally, his ascension complete, he became the Master of the 10th Company.
