Judging by the pre-order bundles we have:
- Chaos Warband
- Helforged Warpack
- Maelstrom of Gore
- Renegade knight
- Heldrake Terror Pack
- Raptor Talon
- Favoured of Chaos

Considering how one of the Traitors Hate preview Pics has the maelstrom of Gore right above a Trinity of blood, I think it's save to assume that another formation would be three lords of skulls.
Then we have the Chaos predator and Vindicator squadrons. Both of which are likely candidates imho.

That gives us 10 formations, none of which sound very promising so far except for the knights (which would be rather bland "formations").

My bet is that TH will be some sort of Vanilla Marines with Spikes -10 type deal that we've been seeing for years.

Is it possible the predator and vindicator ones are replacement dataslates rather than formations? It would be pretty sad if CSM needs to waste 2 formations on replicating the SM unit entries.

It's already sad that GW thinks all CSM needs is a supplement.

Our codex is still godawful, and our model line literally has not passed on to this milennium.

I guess that depends on what psychic powers we get. If those are really the same, I don't see why they wouldn't also rehash those.
Then again, at that point I think it's safe to say that CSM are offically dead.

Dead since that bland 4th edition joke of a codex.

They said they will be updating some of the data-slates for certain units, so lets hope we get some nice little updates on our units! Although after seeing they have released formations in the shops comprised of the old models I don't imagine we will be getting updated troop models any time soon, but at least some updated data-slates have been confirmed.

Just bought myself some forge-world emperors children, the old GW models are more expensive and look worse than their FW counterparts.

No, they aren't going to make a new Codex a year away from 8th. However, what they can do, is keep Chaos players at bay with a nice little campaign.

IG begs to differ since we got a new one something like one month before 7th was released.

Some people find the idea that other people can be happy offensive, and will prefer causing harm to self improvement.

I would temper my expectations if that is how minor the update is. The last time they did this the most notable changes and update to a dataslate for Tau was letting us take everything in 3's from our tanks to Riptides and then one sentence being modified by a few words in the "new" codex.

I hate to join the whiners when I like to keep hope, but I get the distinct feeling this is a bust for the chaos marine players. Why do I care? I hope for game balance, but prepare for the worst.

Edit
Watch it just be the FAQ put into the dataslates lol.

We just had a Deathwatch codex and a KT release. GW will milk the money cow until 8E invalidates it all and forces us to buy again.

There is also a possibility that GW is looking into the future and some books, like TH, are made with the new edition in mind. Will only see then how the book plays out.

Considering two new products have the 7th rule book, I doubt 8th is coming soon.

Yes. DV was released in 6th edition and initially had a 6th edition book.

I don't know if they physically opened their stock, put in the 7th rule book, and rewrapped, or just ran out stock then sold the 7th edition version.

To be fair this is only book one. GW will milk this out for "end time 40k" just in time to release 8th which we've been told is coming or don't people read news thread? Either way there will be more black crusade books adding stuff and never know models may follow. I imagine like 6th chaos are the starting codex.

Ran out of the old one. I can still find random 6th ed boxes in retail stores so it wasn't recalled.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.
