So how is a sensor tower treated when determining if you have models on the board?
It is a t6 w2 4+ piece of terrain

Is it a model? Could they be used along with a infiltration cadre and farsight enclaves CAD to deploy just a piranha and towers T1 and as long as one tower remains you aren't tabled?

Pretty sure the Tower Drones are non-scoring Troops, but I coukd be wrong.

For a null-deploy force, I'd go with an FSE DBC with a Ret Cadre, Rapid Insertion Force, and a Drone-Net or second RIF. Beacon the Steath unit(s), beta strike turn 2.

Scoring or non-scoring does not matter.

What matters is that they are purchased terrain(like a bastion or tidewall) those do not count as units on the table.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

Indeed, otherwise buying an Aegis Defense Line with a turret would allow null deployment.

Besides there's no need to use the fortifications. Deploy just the piranha and give your opponent first turn. Your only tabled if you have no models at the end of the game turn.

Which, if he destroys the piranha, will still leave a sudden death victory before any of the reserve units can come in.

That's at the end of the game turn. If you are going second then the rules for the infiltration cadre would kick in when your opponent takes out the piranha on their first turn, allowing you to drop in everything you have in reserve on your first turn, no rolls needed. As long as they don't all mishap and get destroyed or sent back into reserve then you will end the game turn with models on the board, so no sudden death victory.

As far as tactics go it is pure Mont'ka.

The Laws of Thermodynamics:
1) You cannot win. 2) You cannot break even. 3) You cannot stop playing the game.

Except none of that is legal nor rules that any of the forces have.

Rapid Insertion force must have a unit of Stealth suits deploy on table with the rest in deepstrike; the other units can then deepstrike without scatter near the Stealths.

If you meant Retaliation Cadre; they don't come in until second turn, so you still lose to sudden death in the first turn.

OP was talking about the infiltration cadre. Three pathfinders two stealth teams and a piranha. If any of them are destroyed all reserves come in automatically no need to roll.

This. Just got the names switched up.

Ah, I see.

Yes, that would work in that situation.

I figured he had the wrong formation name but expected he meant the retaliation cadre as it had an auto-reserves rule.

Yeah, the main problem with 'null deploy' tactic is it asks for you going second. However, Tau has no way to modify Deployment rolls, nor give back any 'gifted' first turn. I'm not keen on doing this with Tau
