So here is an idea that I have for a Black Shield in my Deathwatch army. He is going to be a very mysterious Marine who, like other Blackshields, joins the Deathwatch in atonement. His secret is that he is actually one of the Fallen Angels that the Dark Angels are trying to root out. He came to his senses and turned away from Chaos. However, he knew he would no longer be welcome in his old Chapter/Legion. When he found out about the Deathwatch (he is time displaced like most of his former allies),he petitioned for entry, on the condition that his identity remain a secret. He adopted a new name (need to work on that. I kinda want it to hint at his origins as a Fallen Angel) and became a highly capable member of the Deathwatch. He got along well like this for centuries. That is until he was paired with a Dark Angel in his Kill Team. The existence of Black Shields made the Dark Angel question the Watch Master if any former Dark Angels were serving with the Deathwatch. When his inquiry was rebuffed by leadership, the Dark Angel attempted to find out using other means. When attempting to search the Chapter's rolls for any seconded Deathwatch Marines or MIA Marines, the Dark Angel's search eventually alerted the Ravenwing and Deathwing to the possibility of a Fallen Angel serving with the Deathwatch. A Deathwing Terminator and Ravenwing Biker were seconded t the same Watch Fortress in an effort to root out the Fallen Angel. They are started to triangulate the location of any Dark Angels serving as Black Shields. This has not gone unnoticed by the Black Shield, however. He has been able to maintain his secrecy, but is afraid time is running out. This has manifested in him becoming more reckless in combat, seeking to slay as many xenos as possible before the noose finally tightens around him. For their part, the Dark Angels have stepped up their efforts. Once their suspicions as to the identity of the Fallen Angel have been confirmed, they will eventually second a Chaplain to the Deathwatch, who is, in actuality, an Interrogator Chaplain. The Chaplain will ensure the Fallen is apprehended and returned to the Rock for questioning and confession.

So what plans do you have for your Black Shields?

There is a character in the FFG who's exactly this. The Dark Angels are already fully aware of the possibility of Fallen lurking within the Deathwatch.

There's a dark angel character in The Achillus Assault who's trying to gather evidence that one of the blackshield watch-captains may actually be a fallen.

Equally, there's a short story where a rumour of an ancient holdfast guarded by a group of marines with archaic weapons and black armour leads to a Deathwing raid on what turns out to be a hidden watch-station. Which causes no end of trouble because one of the three defending Watchers is a (non-deathwing) Dark Angel.

Poor fallen, even Deathwatch can not protect him.
