Hey guys, i'm thinking of getting back into 40k and picking up where I left off with a small Elysian force I started collecting. I was wondering, what books do I need if I want to play them and the variety of FW flyers to compliment them such as Avenger and Voss Lightning etc. To my knowledge the Elysian Drop Troop list is in 2nd Edition Taros, but what do I for rules using the Avenger and co, and would it be worth getting it now or is a new book due since they're working around publishing second editions etc. Thanks!

It is indeed all(elysian, fliers) in the Taros 2nd ed book, the book has the tau forces with updated rules and units, tallarn style regiment rules/pts.

Additional elysians army list would be the D-99 detachment, which is in the tyranid one, 2nd ed.

The next new book suppose to be tau and mechanicum.

Alright, thanks! So just getting IA: Taros 2nd Edition and IA: Aeronautica should do for now then? Do I need to get the IG Codex as well to play them or?

I'd skip Aeronautica. The recent Death from the Skies supplement changed how flyers work, and FW has released updated rules for their flyers as a free pdf.

I don't think you need the codex either, everything should be in the book.

The other view on this is no one uses death from the skies thus the IA book is still useful. The free pdf if the Avenger is included would obviously make the IA book null and void.

Its still a cool but expensive army. I am slowly building one with alternate figures. Much cheaper.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

The pdf Thunderbolt and Lightning both have substantially different wargear options from IA:A, so you'd be buying an entire IA book for one entry. That seems suboptimal.

Hmmmm I checked the Death from the Skies PDF but doesn't seem to have anything beyond the Thunderbolt and Lightning in it?

The Avenger is in IA3, in the Elysian list as a heavy support unit. You don't need IA:Aeronautica for anything.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Now that I had no idea about, thank you sir! No need to worry about that anymore. Guess all I really need is the Taros 2nd Ed Book and the Death from the Skies update. Thanks for help guys.
