Has anyone done it? If so, how easy was it? Largely I want to magnetize the front guns and the missiles, but making the Auspex Array and Infernum Halo-Launcher interchangeable would be nice too.

My Corvus is on backorder so I am trying to plan for it once it comes.

So I went ahead and took the liberty of magnetizing my Corvus Blackstar. Going in blind, it wasn't all that difficult, to be honest.

The Infernum Halo-Launcher and the Auspex Array were just a matter of slapping a pretty big magnet under their attachment point and putting a similar magnet under the actual piece themselves. As you can see from the image, I had to put in a little chunk of sprue to get the magnet in the right spot for the Infernum Halo-Launcher. The Auspex Array needed no alteration.

The Hurricane Bolters were deceptively difficult. Getting the magnets in place was not hard at all. The magnets I chose (not even sure on their size, I will get measurements later) fit snuggly in the HB parts and I just slapped the same magnet under the plastic on the top piece of the model. I did alter the HB mounts though. Because they will be sliding into place on a painted model, they would likely scrape paint off dude to the snug fit they have with their attachment point. So I carved off a good amount of plastic to make sure they had room to fit with the paint. You could probably cut the little projections that fit into the attachment point off altogether, but I didn't want them to be too free-floating.

Other spots that could be magnetized are the forward mounted weapons. I didn't do so on mine, but it would just be a matter off cutting the peg off and replacing it with a magnet, and drilling a hole(twice the depth of the magnet on the weapon) and gluing a magnet inside.

The missile launchers under the wings are much harder to deal with. Because they sit recessed under their mount, once magnetized, retrieving them when they are in place will be difficult. I elected to just glue the Blackstar Rocket Launcher in place and avoid the issue altogether. What I recommend doing if you want to make them interchangeable is to use smaller magnets on the sides, and glue a larger magnet in the middle that doesn't correspond to a magnet on the mount. Then, take a piece of sprue and glueven a magnet to the end of it that matches the polarity of the big magnet. When you want to swap the parts, just take your new removal tool and stick it to the part and it should just pull away (the attraction between the larger magnets will be greater than that between the smaller magnets).

If you have any other ideas, go ahead and post them!
