In a rare, hopefully not to rare anymore, game; my Orks fought against another Ork Warband, surprisingly ORKS WON!
In a bout of pure hilarity that had our table drawing a crowd, my Killa Kan army fought against his 1,500pt optimized "Great Waaaagh Band."
My Army consisted of two CADS
1 Big Mek in MA and a KFF as my Warboss.
2 units of 10 boyz naked without a Nob
1 Deff Dread
6 Killa Kanz (Rokkitz)
Morkanaut (no KFF)
1 Big Mek nekid
2 10 man boyz units Nekid
1 Unit of killa Kanz (Grotzookas)
5 Mek Gunz (KMKs 3 etra grots)
His army was the Waaaagh Band,
Warboss with DLS on a bike
Painboy on Bike
6 Nobz on bike 2-3 with PKs (Cant remember)
6 units of 11 boyz and a Nob with PK/BP ALL mounted in trukkz with a Ram.
1 unit of Grots
and a Mek.
So those who are not familiar with the Ork codex or the new supplement, My Army consisting of Kanz and Dreadz is an old 4th edition list that got beaten into the ground by GW. They raised the average price per model up by about 45% (Kanz went from 35 to 50 a model). On the other hand, the Waaagh Band is supposed to be the Ork version of the Decurion, so we call it the Orkurion. SO how did the Orkurion fare against the old Kan Wall list?
Well they won!
But barely and if I had gone first it would have been a lot different, even my opponent thought so. At the end of the game I had a full unit of Kanz left holding 1 objective and my Mek gunz running away because that is usually what they do. He was left with 3 units of Boyz, 1 was a Nob and a single boy, one was 4 Boyz and a Nob and the last was 1 nob and 3 boyz. He also had 3 Trukkz and his Grots running around the backfield holding objectives. Had my terrible deff dread been able to accomplish its only mission the entire game (kill his warlord) The game would have changed in my favor dramatically, with me being able to hold my Mek Gunz line and slaughter his remaining trukks with impunity, instead it whiffed and the game went in my opponents favor. Over all it was an incredibly fun game with a lot of laughter, shenanigans and just a general good time for us both.
Overall, I was disappointed with the New Orkuion. My old Kan List came within a heartbeat of tabling it, the ability to waaaagh first turn sounds good on paper but it really isn't that great because the rest of the benefits are mediocre at best. Even with all the assaults that were happening he never managed to get any of his boyz their HoW attacks. For how much you have to invest in that list it should give a lot more benefits then 1 extra turn of waaagh.

^^ this. Walkers are bad because they are slow and this is a shooty edition where some armies put out a stupid amount of high strength dakka. Orks are pretty bad at shooting so you more or less beat the walking water heaters at their own game.

Yah. He has basically nobz with klaw to deal with armour. You have like dozen walkers. Busy day for nobz. If he can't attack them piece meal he's in trouble. He has basically no long range AT fire which is what takes out kans in a hurry. He had to get to cc which is funnily enough where kans want to be. Then most of his squads can't hurt kans in cc unlike many dedicated CC units that will swat squad of kans in a hurry while nob is trying to roll few 4+'s to hit...
Grots are cheesy if opponent fields nothing but IG lascannon teams as well...

It's not reeally possible to run an "Optimized" Orkurion at 1500. You need at LEAST 1850 points for some upgrades to make that list useful.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

Congrats? You've said before how much you hated the Orks formations that were released. Not sure what this post adds other than confirming things everyone already knew: Ork formations are lame and weak.

This got me thinking about how would I build 1500 points with DW-B. So far I've put a Goff Kill mob list together.
Haven't tried to tool up a WAAAGH! Band yet. 1500 points is very challenging.
These two should play differently. I think, I'm really only reclaiming the points from the Killa Kan mob and I guess the Deff Dreads. Have to check to see if Deff Dreads are available in Auxiliary slots.
This would be in keeping with the OP's game of Orks V Orks.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Just had a look and neither unit is Auxiliary.

I'm saying what's the point of this thread? Semper has already posted before about how gak the formations are, and when they came out, most people saw they didn't really do well until you played above 2000 point games.

I am at the point where I wonder if you just follow me around reilly and spout hate against me and my opinions on orks If you would just relax and have a good time you would probably be a happier person.
The point of this was my first actual experience playing AGAINST the Orkurion, I have personally never used it because I think its hot garbage, it was just nice to play a game and see it used effectively by someone who isn't as biased as I am against it.
The fact that my 4th edition Kan wall did so well is a bit of a let down for our Orkurion, but overall I had a great time and from the laughter and crowd that gathered I would say that a lot of others had some fun as well. If you really want to be a negative nancy feel free 1st amendment
