So i had a game against my friends tau army with my Astra militarum, my friend decided to bring tau supremacy armor to 2000pt game.
You can guess the outcome...so is there any effective counter for that piece dakka? I shot 7 lascannon shots and 2 vanquisher shots per round at it, didnt even manage to take one wound away (gotta admit the Dice Gods favoured Tau alot)

Marine allies with grav, psy powers, csm allied sorccabal with their - "go shoot your own army" stuff. MSU csm spawns - like 15-20 squads of solo spqwns to tie it up for the entire game. Multiple imperial knights that would tie it up and eventually kill in melee.
As for mono ig...try to score maelstorm and pray for 5-th turn game end. you can't kill it.

Get yourself a Warhound Titan.
Seriously, just don't play against it outside of a full apocalypse game, it's a Titan level unit and bringing it to a 2000pts game is a very TFG move, especially if your opponent doesn't have anything equivelant to counter it with.

Bring a Warhound Titan, take dual Turbo Laser, the Tau Supremancy is the same level as Warhound so don't feel guilty for taking a ture Titan. Support it by a few wyveen mortar (to take out marker light sources) and most importantly: a primaris psyker formation. If your psykers get invisibility, you will won by out StrD the Tau. If you don't get that, pray "Emperor protects" for one hundred times.

That's titan level firepower.
Your going to need alot more dakka if you want to kill it.

That block of resin has no business being on any non apoc table. Psychic Shriek spam and/or somehow getting misfortune on it to bullet spam it with Vultures. Invisible blob guard with fearless priest running in to tarpit it forever could possibly work as well.

Yeah, that's a proper Titan-class beastie. At 2k, if you don't have something equivalent, that's a mean move. And by equivalent, I mean a Warhound or Revenant, or multiple Knights, Wraithknights, Stormsurges or Stompas.
There's a fellow at my FLGS that has one - I'm looking forward to seeing it get pitted against a Reaver Titan. (Since someone else just got one of those.)

Pretty much... what the others said. Fight titans with titans. If you want to really make your buddy sad, stand your warhound on top of a skyshield platform for a 75pt 4++. Or just give your titan invis like others have mentioned.

I've had a lot of experience fighting Tanars as my friend is very much into the whole 'Gundam style' of Tau, and unlike most posters here I'm of the mind set that if it's legal, it should be usable unless specified in advance. So, with the Taunar you have to approach it as if you were dealing with a powered up deathstar. You need to fully grasp what it takes to kill it before you engage it (mainly grav weaponry, D strength attacks or (if you have a delivery method) close combat to tie it up) unfortunately without allied grav units or destroyer caliber weapons of your own, imperial guard will not be able to destroy it. If you can't kill it, you will need to focus your firepower on his other units (such as his fast scoring units or squishy markerlights) and focus on the objectives (you will lose killpoints as you know) If you feel like this is not enough, I would make it clear in advance that you do not want to play against super heavies/ gargantuan creatures.

Not all superheavies are as broken as tau'nar or wraithknight.

Very true, but you will always find people who will declare that Super heavy or Gargantuan models have no place in standard 40k games, and besides in a more competitive meta you really should have an answer for Imperial and Wraithknights in your lists, even if you have a single LOW limit.
A Taunar is a little different seeing as it is much more survivable than a Wraithknight, but it should be easier to shut it down compared to a deathstar considering it's weakness to psychic based attacks/debuffs

Yeah, I too wouldn't like to fight a Titan, unless my opponent told me beforehand he wants to use it (so I'd have time to prepare or decline). I want to test a Stormsurge - but to do it, I must say in advance I'll have a list with one, so my pals will be able to put stuff that can deal with one.
The Ta'unar is pretty strong, so I would ask your collegue to only use one when other Titans are around. If it was just to test it, no worries
