Subject: Can I Ally a Legion with 2 Renegade Knights

I recently got the Renegade boxset, which includes rules for Renegade Knights. The FOC allows for 3 Knights in a detachment. I only have the two
Would it be problematic for me to ally with 2 Knights using the rules that come with Renegade? Really don't want to have to buy another book to use these guys.

Not normally. Legion forces have their own version of the Knights army list, and don't use 40k detachments.

Is it any different than the 40K list...which is basically (a) weapons options and (b) take up to three Knights.
If the weapons options are the same, and the number you can bring is the same, why bother with another book?
EDIT: never mind, I can see through fw pdfs that the weapons options can be quote different.

Not just the weapon options.
Qaestoris Knights sit in a 'normal' looking allied detachment or Qaestoris Primary detachment - they have HQ, troops, elites and so forth.
You buy the 'pilot' (say, Scion Militant) for X points, and then buy his armour (say, Knight Paladin) for Y points. Both the pilot and the armour have special rules, varying from improved invulnerable saves, to worsened stats (for a discount) to the ability to fire overwatch, whilst the knight armours do not correspond directly to Codex: Imperial Knights (the crusader, for example, replaces its gatling rather than its thermal cannon with weapon upgrades), much less to the Renegade Knights list (for example there is no possibility of taking twin gatlings)

Gotcha. I'll likely build my Knights to the Renegade list because I have the list and that's what my modelling options are, but if I ever want to use them with my Legion, I'll get opponent permission and explain it wouldn't be legal.

Just magnetize, and then you can swap the weapons to whatever knight you want to remain legal. Way easier than trying to get opponents to agree to an illegal list.

But do any 30K Knights have access to the big Gatling gun, Battle cannon, or top-mounted options?
In any case I don't think magnetization is even necessary for these models. I built one so far, and it seems the arms just pop right on and off, and stay on without need for glue. Though I haven't glued the shoulder plates on yet, and maybe those could get in the way??

I'm pretty sure the 40k knights are also in 30k, so they do have those options. As far as just not gluing them, I don't have any experience with it, but the point is there's no need to lock yourself into one option permanently if there's a chance you'll go with other options. Whether that means magnetizing or just not gluing it in.

Yeah, thge Knight kits are pretty cool in that if you don't glue where it says not to glue, you get a lot of moving parts. The shield and Stubber/Meltagun that sit on the shoulders can move around, the head can move around, the arm can rotate and be removed, and the elbow joint moves too. Pretty cool if "movey" parts are your thing. The mounted weapon on top I guess you wouldn't have to glue either, although it would sit wobbly without glue.
I'll definitely keep the arm-guns swappable. The way I'm moved to model them is 1 will have a battlecannon and a reaper chainsword, and the other will have the gatling cannon and a battlecannon. So I'd have those 4 to move around at least. I suppose I could magnetize at the elbow for even more options.

Yes, the Questoris Knight list is the 30K Knight army. It has all of the Forgeworld variants, as well as the regular hunchbacked variants. When I play Knights in 30K I have a Paladin, Warden, and Crusader.

Just a warning, they changed the Crusader load out from 40k to 30k with the new edition of the Questoris list. You can't take the Gatling/Battle Cannon anymore. You can take a Thermal Cannon/Gatling or Thermal/Battle Cannon.
I have no idea why they changed this. I even emailed FW to see if it was intended and it was. I have to swap my load out for my Crusader because of it.

Pretty sure the 40K load out is the exact same.
