Hey dakka, I was looking for some help in a subject matter I am not the most experienced with, Vallejo paints.

I'm a citadel type of guy myself, It's what I learned how to paint with and I didn't see a reason for getting any other brand, but after using two different Vallejo paints and adoring the quality of them, I wanted to replace some of paints I own that are on their last leg just to dip my toes in the water.

Specifically, I am wondering about the Vallejo equivalent of Mephiston red and the Vallejo equivalent Cadian Fleshtone, what are they (if they exist) are they better than the citadel variants? Additionally, does Vallejo do washes? Are they good? Are they better than GW's?

Thank you! Sorry if I seem a bit uneducated!

I am a huge hater of Vallejo primers so avoid them if you can.
However, Vallejo Dark Wash is superb and it is one of the best shades/washes I ever had.

Awesome, thank you, Im quite big on the washes so that is very useful

(I realize saying 'big on *insert thing here* makes me sound like a middle aged man so I apologize)

Mephiston Red is a really good colour, even though I avoid GW paints these days, I still keep a pot of Mephiston Red in my arsenal.

Being a "base" it's obviously not as vibrant as other reds, but you'll struggle to find a red with similar vibrancy that covers anywhere near as good.

While I normally think it's silly to bother swapping GW's paint out of their terrible pots and in to droppers or better flip tops, Mephiston Red is one of the few colours it's probably worth the effort.

The other red I like is Tamiya Flat Red, it also has really good coverage, however like all Tamiya acrylics it's not a easy colour to hairy brush paint with, so I only use it for airbrushing.
