The North

Here we go,

I'm currently in the process of building a new Ork army. A big part of the hobby for me is taking unloved/abused models, repairing/kit-bashing them and giving TLC to form new forces (some of which end up going on sale).


The physical models I have for producing a force for this current project are as follow:

x50 Boyz (Slugga/Choppa)
x5 Special Weapons (Currently x4 Big Shoota and x1 Rokkit, can kit-bash to make x5 Rokkit)
x5 Nob leaders (x1 PK and x4 Choppa/Slugga)

x10 Nobs (x2 Big Choppa, x2 Combi Rokkit, x1PK, x5 Slugga/Choppa)

x6 Deffkoptas (Rokkit Launcha)

x3 Killa Kan (Grotzooka)

x35 Grots (Used to crew big gunz or can be used as meat shields)
x3 Runt Herders

x3 Lobba
x1 Traktor Kannon

x1 Blitza Bomma

X1 Aegis Defence Line (Quad Gun)

x1 Gruk Faceripper
x1 Generic Warboss (PK)
x1 Pain boy.


So! Questions as follow: If you had these models available, what would be the force you would consider making? My initial ideas are to use sit the lobbas behind the ADL with a large group of grot crew. Two squads of (x3) Deffkoptas, A couple of large blobs of boyz? Though potentially converting 10 boyz into two squads of Tank Bustas?

Really just after general ideas here for what works using this stuff!

One doesn't often see Orks making great use of Fortifications, but they'd be great for your Mek Gunz, and you'd get Grot-level BS3 on the quadgun for anti-air. If you convert ten boys into Tankbustas (which I recommend) I'd run them as one squad because they're foots logging and need to make it into range. Two groups of twenty Boyz will be great for infantry and objectives. Kills Kanz aren't that competitive but fun and a good boost to a starting force (they'll also give you a taste of how Ork walkers work if you ever wanted a Deff Dread or something). Ork flyers tend to be a little weak, but I love hem (I field at least five when I can) and they add some diversity to he force. Grukk is way better than a standard war boss, run him with the Nobz to get a nice killy and fun assault unit. How much of this you'll fit into 1500 points I don't know, but as a guess I reckon you'd get most of it in.

I completely forgot about the looted wagon (It had been secreted away into a separate box).

I may have to increase the points limit (and can make up the difference with upgrades etc.)
