You'l probably recall Emma who, until recently, was one of the Warhammer TV presenters with Duncan.

She's no longer with GW , she's just been offered partnership by Twitch to become a partnered streamer, which ain't bad.

https://www.twitch.tv/electriceve

is the link.

Thanks for the link and the info, I was wondering what had happened to Emma. I hope it was a good split with the company.

I was wondering what happened to her too - I guess GW decided that Duncan could handle all the painting himself. I kinda preferred the tutorials with him in them anyway he seems a lot more comfortable and better articulated than she was.

I totally underestimated Emma though - I checked out her Twitter, and holy hell she has some mad painting skills. I must watch one of her streams sometime! (I missed the one this afternoon )

Emma IMO doesn't belong in mini painting. In all the tutorials she did she was lifeless, awkward, and had no character or commitment to what she was painting. Sure, she paints good, but Duncan actually knows what he's painting.

She knows what she's painting too - she's been in the hobby since she was 11 according to her profile on Twitch, and has her own personal collections of 40K and Fantasy models. Duncan just also happens to be a much more indoctrinated member of the GW team, who has painted a large swathe of Codex feature models, and knows the drill a lot better since he's been doing online tutorials for 2 years now.

If you go back 2 years on Warhammer TV, you'll see he was quite clumsy too in the expression department.

I didn't like Emma simply because she wasn't Duncan.

Part of that was GWs fault though, the videos have a very consistent structure that I associate with Duncan. Anyone else doing it will seem like an imposter. Her own twitch would probably be considerably better as she could be herself.

More power to her man...I can do without the MySpace profile pic for ladies or dudes, but her craft is what it is. I wouldnt argue for it like a lot of artists on the scene but making a living off of miniature modeling isnt exactly the easiest thing on the planet.

Well from this channel, her friends/fans, her gallieries, and the fact she's been featured in GW publications, I think you can gather what your O is worth.

It's a shame the link doesn't seem to show what times her streams run, I'd be curious to see one.

That is a very harsh comment and to be honest it does not belong in any civilized context. It's fine you don't like her style or how she presents herself on screen, but that is in no way grounds to say "doesn't belong in mini painting". She is a very talented artist, and for those of us who have seen her on twitch knows that she is anything but lifeless and awkward.

What you should understand is that the very specific format of the painting videos don't give you much freedom to be yourself and you are rushed to produce content. This combined with it being hard to act natural on camera makes it quite challenging.

I would agree that Duncan is a better presenter and obviously more experienced with this sort of production, but putting someone down like that just because you don't like them is NOT OK in my book.

I dont think thats a fair comment Chef of Cadia. She perhaps wasn't particularly comfortable, but she did do some pretty nice videos for WarhammerTV.

She did indeed; again it's also important to keep in mind that she started in December of 2015, whereas Duncan has been doing tutorials on WarhammerTV since early 2014, and has been evolving the presentation of the series with the GW team as he went along.

I'm sure it was the limitation of the format that resulted in her rigidity on camera - judging by her Twitter and Instagram, she's a much more chill person who can go crazy with painting techniques when it's on her terms.

Yeah, I'm sure most of us would come off as a bit stiff/awkward, at least for a while, if we had to adapt our personal painting styles to a strictly formatted video series...

Having watched many of her streams, I can say she definitely seems a lot more comfortable and "in her element" on stream, than she was on the WHTV vids

Your first and final comments are in no way supported by the reasoning you give. All you made a case for is that you don't find her an engaging presenter.

Absolutely. Case in point right here - check out Duncan's first ever tutorial on Warhammer TV regarding base paints:

And now look at his April Fools joke tutorial this year:

Big difference as you can clearly see.

I honestly think her moving on from working for GW is much better for her (provided she has another job somewhere else, of course) since she now has that freedom to demonstrate a much higher skill level of painting than what's demonstrated on WarhammerTV tutorials, alongside having control over her streams. That, and there perhaps wasn't a need for anyone to accompany Duncan on WarhammerTV - he's the face of that series after all, and seems to manage fine on his own with whoever works on WarhammerTV churning out good tutorials at a steady pace.

I will be trying to watch her stream next Monday - looking forward to it actually

Man, I just watched her stream and she read out my post and seemed to get offended by it :/

Emma, if you read this post, I was trying to say that I think the WarhammerTV videos are presented in Duncan's style (because it's his, or he's made it his), and that you being shoehorned into a ~Lady Duncan~ role isn't really my deal.

The stream was WAY better than her WarhammerTV videos, I'm assuming because she was able to be herself.

That said, I also realised that I don't really want to watch anyone paint miniatures live on stream.

feth the haters Emma, you're an excellent painter. I think that 1d4chan actually called this pretty well, fa/tg/uys lost their mind at a woman painting.

Theres a whole host of great streamers on twitch including Emma.

Theyre great to watch while painting for inspiration and motivation. Also because they tend to be quite personal streams you get to interact and ask questions which is a great help.

Theres also Grendler and Geitmeise (and many more) who are great to watch and are very helpful. If you find a few you like that are streaming at the same time you can open multiple tabs and mute as needed. That way you can increase their viewer count and give them the exposure they need.

Yeah I felt her videos on Warhammer TV were like she was trying to be a female version of Duncan, it was most likely because that was what she was instructed to do (and it's quite possible Duncan is also instructed to behave the way he does) but it came across as a bit forced in the way she seemed to mimic everything down to Duncan's mannerisms and intonation.

I watched a bit of her twitch stream and she is a lot more natural on that than she was in the GW vids.

That said, I agree with you, I don't really want to watch anyone paint miniatures on a live stream either. I didn't watch enough of it to see anything mentioned about Dakka.

I can read painting blogs for hours, flipping through photos and what not, I really love seeing how a kit comes together and not just the end result, most the pics in my own gallery are WIP rather than finished because I like to share how I do things more than the end results. BUT, put that in video form, especially real-time video form and my eyes glaze over with boredom

The stream went for over about hour, she added one colour.

That's fine, but man it is not great TV.

I like the WahammerTV ones because they're so heavily edited, then again they have a production crew.

3 colours, actually - something like a Typhon Tank is going to take a lot of time; in fact I'm impressed she went on for 3 hours straight painting. I stayed throughout for the good conversation while also watching the model slowly unfold.

A WarhammerTV tutorial is certainly going to serve you better if you just want to learn how to do a full model, but this delivered in so many other ways; I could ask hobby related questions, while also being able to discuss my own models with people in the chat, which was all very helpful. It was also a pretty good laugh - I didn't feel like I wasted 3 hours of my life like I do with a lot of gaming streams, as Em was interacting with everyone throughout.

I get why people wouldn't want to watch them - I personally will be tuning in again this Wednesday for sure

I didnt really like her so I'm glad they only left Duncan. Maybe it was because of her technique abusing with the drybrushes like hell, or perhaps the way GW presented her as "lets put a lady painting the beginners tutorials, so we can show all can paint easily"
I hope her good luck in twitch. Maybe there she'll be able to show her abilities better.
